Hi everyone,
I recently set up a MediaWiki (http://server.bluewatersys.com/w90n740/)
and I need to extra the content from it and convert it into LaTeX
syntax for printed documentation. I have googled for a suitable OSS
solution but nothing was apparent.
I would prefer a script written in Python, but any recommendations
would be very welcome.
Do you know of anything suitable?
Kind Regards,
Hugo Vincent,
Bluewater Systems.
Hi,
I have just joined, I am from mumbai, india. I would like to get the
articles translated in marathi, my mother tongue. Looking at the effort
and no of volunteers, this will not be usable in any reasonable amount
of time.
That has made me think of alternatives - machine translation. A state
funded institute has a software available but I don't have access to it
yet.
Pl. comment about this approach. Has this been tried for any other
language earlier.
Thanks & regards,
Prasad Gadgil

Hello,
As wikipedia is slow at the busy time, I propose to get some new servers for our cluster.
- Some new web servers(3 or 4), P4 2,8Ghz with 2Go of RAM
- A server which could be a backup for nfs server, zwinger, with bigger disk, 80Go is very low, maybe 200 or 250Go
- Upgrading disk of zwinger to 200 or 250Go (or add a new one)
- A db server in 64 bits mode with 4Go of RAM (if we cant make working geoffrin), like this one :
http://www.macomp.com/products/servers/patriot2200.asp
With raid 10 disk system, 4 or 6 drives in raid and 1 stand-by. I prefer 15000rpm disk, but I can understand that they are more expensive
- Maybe another squid server
What do you think of that ?

Good morning,
when trying to access Special:Newimages, I get:
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in
/home/cddoc/tools/httpd/htdocs/wiki/includes/Image.php on line 124
..., which is
$img = new Image( $nt->getDBKey() );
:-? What to do here? (1.4beta3)
Greetings

Hi, I have a maybe problematic issue. Today I decided it was definitely
time to create a first portal with wikimedia software dedicated to
Maiori, the town where I live (www.maiorinostra.net) now I took quite a
lot of pictures from here which I would like to upload to commons in
oder to allow anyone to use them. As you know: uploading is a pain in
the neck. On the other hand I am creating this portal where all texts
are under GFDL. And really I think uploading photos twice doesn't make
any sense - and furthermore my aim is to create a group of people who
start contributing to the other wikimedia projects as well. My small
project here will allow me to show people how to add contents and how to
use it (shops may add their own page, kids may create their own page etc.).
I have no problems to link to wikibooks inserting exercises for my
pupils there and sending them there to download - sending them to read
on wikisource and having them translate (not too difficult) articles
from wikipedia with the help of wiktionary (adding terms if they don't
find them there), but I have a real problem with images - it would just
double my work and I belive that inserting immages from commons and
promote the use of it sooner or later people will contribute - I know it
will take time, but starting things on a very low local level will help
to open up minds. So please: how can I include single pictures from
commons on an external wiki?
Thank you for any hint!
Ciao, Sabine
Hi,
is there a problem having two mediawikis running parallel on one mysql?
Experimenting with update from 1.3.3 to 1.3.9, I have one 1.3.3 running as
database "wikidb" on mysql and all the apache files in
....path..../httpd/htdocs/wiki/
Now set up a second, entirely independent apache having everything in
....differentPath..../httpd/htdocs/ and untaring the 1.3.9 archive there, after
renaming ....differentPath..../httpd/htdocs/wiki/
So far working good, but filling out config/index.php (everything identical with
the 1.3.3, but with "Database name" set to "wikidb2" and submitting leads to:
---8<---
Checking environment...
* PHP 4.3.9: ok
* PHP server API is apache; ok, using pretty URLs (index.php/Page_Title)
* Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
* PHP is configured with no memory_limit.
* No zlib support.
* Couldn't find GD library or ImageMagick; image thumbnailing disabled.
* Installation directory: /home/cddoc/tools/httpd/htdocs/wiki
* Script URI path: /wiki
* Connected as root (automatic)
* Connected to database... 4.0.17; enabling MySQL 4 enhancements
* Couldn't create database wikidb2; try with root access or check your
username/pass.
Something's not quite right yet; make sure everything below is filled out
correctly.
---8<---
And labeled "<- Enter" is the "DB root password" field - but the DB root
password given there is definitely correct - checked several times.
What's the problem here? :-?
Cheers and merry christmas
Philipp
I am trying to setup a BugZilla site using the MediaZilla templates,
which I got at http://download.wikimedia.org/bugzilla/mediazillatemplate.tar.gz.
Thanks Brion for the package.
But as you can see in the attached screenshot. It does not look as
good as the finished version used by MediaZilla
(http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/).
Would anybody have a package that they would be willing to share? Or
any hints about how to fix this?
Thanks.

No, that's not the problem. It's probably a problem of namespace within the
Hindi Wiktionary.
