Hi,
I've made an IEG Grant proposal, to develop few tools for Armenian Wikisource, which can be localized, adjusted for different languages and used globally in the future.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Tools_for_Armenian_Wikisource_and...
I would appreciate your feedback, ideas and thought, on this, a lot.
Do you find those tool useful for your Wikisource projects? May be you have small feature requests, which you think will make those tools more appealing.
Also if there's anyone willing to join the project, or to modify tools for their language version in future, I'd be happy to hear that.
Thanks beforehand,
Aleksey, [[User:Xelgen]]
Hi Xelgen, sorry for the delay. I really think that your project is awesome, and I do hope you will get the funds. Remember that our previous Wikisource-related IEG helped creating a Wikisource Community User Group ( http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikisource_Community_User_Group) which of course is *ours* and you can use :-)
Moreover, if it helps, "copy" our pages ( http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Elaborate_Wikisource_strategic_vis... ): we put great care in doing our reports, and they were appreciated.
Me and Micru are available if you have specific questions on the IEG.

Moreover: regarding the WikiSource IllustrationCropper, did you know about the Alex Brollo tool?
To test it, go on your oldwikisource account, and in User:YOU/vector.js copy this:
importScript("User:Alex_brollo/cornersDependencies.js"); importScript("User:Alex brollo/corners.js"); importStylesheet("User:Alex brollo/common.css");
The tool will appear under Tools, and it's called "Ritaglio immagini" (crop images). It opens a window which allows you to select and crop an image directy on the page. It is extremely useful to use illustration directly on the page. It is usable both in View and Edit mode.
In the Italian Wikisource we have made it a Gadget and button, so it's active for everyone.

Hi!
It's a very nice project.
The ZoomProof idea looks amazing and it may be a nice idea to build it as a part of the ProofreadPage extension (maybe using a beta feature during the development [1]) in order to allow an easy sharing between Wikisources and the use of MediaWiki backend features (caching...).
Feel free to contact me if you want some help related to ProofreadPage (using emails or IRC).

Hi all, and sorry for late reply.
Thanks a lot for hints, suggestions and endorsements, here and on proposal's page. It was important to know, that Wikisourcians see potential in those tools too.
Aubrey> Cropping tool of Italian Wikisource was very helpful, and I didn't know about it. I was trying to implement similar template as a temporary solution (before image is being cropped and uploaded as separate file), in a different way, and wasn't able to make it work the way I wanted (standard thumbnail styling and functionality). So that was extreme useful, and I'll definitely use that. Thanks.
I also do appreciate examples of good reports. Reporting is not the funniest thing to do, so having good guidelines, is helpful.
Thomas> Yes, it would be awesome to have it as part of ProofreadPage extenstion in future, and I'm glad you also think that way. The only concern is that IEG has requirement for tools not to require Code review in Gerrt/additional workload for WMF Techies. Though I just realised that you have +2 on Gerrit, so if you're up to, may be it will be possible to make it as part of ProofreadPage extension, and still meet IEG reuirements?
I wasn't able to catch you on IRC yet, I'll drop you a line on e-mail, to discuss it in details.
Best, Aleksey a.k.a. Xelgen

Happy to know that you like cropping tool and that you find it useful. I agree fully with keyword "temporary": time is always laking, but we see two ways to develop it, to convert such temporary trick into definitive, separated files:
1. to use coordinates of image relative to image page to crop original image, or source high-definition images of the page, by a bot script; 2. to build a "canvas environment" to edit them (filtering, resizing....) interactively by users and to save the result locally or upload them into Commons in a simple way.
We are presently exploring archive.org environment to discover how take advantage of any derived file by that marvellous website (djvu.xml, abbyy.xml, high-resolution zipped images....).
