There is an interesting hackathon in San Francisco, this friday,
pretty Wikisource related.
Tell your Wikisourcian friends in the area!

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Renewal of the Recognition to Wikisource Community
User Group
To: wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Dear all,
On behalf of the Affiliations Committee, I am honoured to announce the
renewal of the recognition of Wikisource Community User Group as a
Wikimedia User Group. They have been working hard this past year and it is
the Affiliations Committee's opinion that they meet the criteria for having
their user group status renewed indefinitely, starting the date of
publication of the resolution.
Congratulations!!!

After the suggestion of Nicolas to redo the 2013 survey to find out which
are the priorities of the Wikisource Community User Group, I have started
this page to gather questions:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikisource_Community_User_Group/Wikisource_…
Feel free to add your questions, or reshape the content. I have added some
additional questions regarding governance and personal involvement that I
feel that might be relevant.
Cheers,
Micru

Arbitrary access has been enabled in all Wikisources, is anybody doing
anything with it that can be replicated in all Wikisources?
And regarding badges, there is this ticket open:
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T97014
Which badges do we need in Wikidata? I was thinking of:
- Proofread
- Validated
- Export ready
Any thoughts on this? Can they be filled up by bot?
Thanks
Micru
Dear all,
Since the Wikisource Community User Group [1] has been building a reliable
track record of activities during the last two years, there was the idea of
advancing even further and tackling our technical debt with a dedicated
Wikisource developer.
I would like to draft a project in order to approach Chapters or other
organizations that can give us support in our task, but first I need to
know what are our highest priority tasks right now.
In my opinion it would be something like:
- Visual Editor for Wikisource
- Book manager extension
- Lua scripts for Wikidata integration
- Book infobox for Wikipedia to share metadata
Any thoughts about this? Does anyone know a reliable developer? Or a
chapter that could offer help? Or someone who could act as a techical
mentor/overseer?
Thanks and regards!
Micru

I realised that in the hectic series of introductions, chats, tutorials
and i18n fixes I forgot to look at what other Wikisource people were
doing at the hackathon other than the "Wikisource table" where
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon_2015/Program
Tpt and Coren stood out improving wsexport, including PDF and Score
support: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T92287 What else? If I forgot
to say hello to someone or missed anything, forgive me and accept my
post-hoc hugs!
Nemo
Hi everyone...
Yep, Tpt and Coren worked on the new wsexport that should be available,
hopefully, for all within a few days...
The new URL can be accessed manually already at this address:
http://tools.wmflabs.org/wsexport/tool/book.php
These are the formats that will be available for export:
ePub3
ePub2
MOBI
TXT
RTF
PDF -A4
PDF -A5
PDF -US Letter
I'm wating to hear from Tpt as if there will be command lines for all the
different formats or if he'll have a small pop up in wich we'll have to
select the desired format.
Furthermore, in Special:IndexPages, we'll be able to see in the facsimile
progress bar, the exact number of problem pages, not proofreaded,
proofreaded and validated... Tpt added this to be in the next merge.

TL;DR:
Wsexport now outputs PDF at https://tools.wmflabs.org/wsexport/tool/book.php + we need you to test ePub 3 output as it will be used by default in a few weeks.
Long version:
Hello everyone,
Marc-Andre Peltier and I have added to wsexport the capacity to export PDF, MOBI, TXT and RTF during the Lyon hackathon. This new feature uses Calibre ebook converter system [1].
We created also a new instance of wsexport on Wikimedia Tool Labs: https://tools.wmflabs.org/wsexport/tool/book.php to test these new formats.
We plan to do two big changes in the next few weeks:
1. Remove wsexport.wmflabs.org and redirect it to tools.wmflabs.org/wsexport . It shouldn't disrupt anything as we will take care of keeping URLs valid.
2. Move the default format from ePub 2 to ePub 3. ePub 3, between other things, allows to use HTML 5 and, so, to add new nice features to eBooks. As ePub 3 should be retrocompatible with ePub 2 this change should not disallow old eReaders to read the ePubs. But, in order to ensure that this statement is true, could you all try to read ePubs 3 created by wsexport on your old reading devices and report bugs that may remain?
Cheers,
Thomas

Hi Siska,
For technical issues we have this Wikisource Phabricator board:
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/board/1117/
I don't know if there is already a ticket open on that issue, I never
experienced that problem.
Could you please provide more details, see if a ticket already exists, or
open one?
@Rachmat Wahidi: if the Wikisource conference finally happens, it would be
very interesting if you could share your expertise with us. I am not
familiar with the arrangement you use, but having a responsible person for
the whole pipeline seems very reasonable.
Cheers,
Micru
