Hi,
We should write the email to wikipedia-gu into Gujarati, but due to my mobile limitation, I cant write into Gujarati.
Well, I was thinking that we should share Gujarati Wikipedia Topics to write articles. Suppose, a wikipedian who writes only for some particular topic. For e.g. I am writing article about Computer related. And I also edit it if it already exists. So we should be create community for particular topics, the community member will edit related article.
What's your idea ?
Hi All,
I have come to know a surprising fact that in the Wiki meetup recently held
in Ahmedabad, while discussing about Gujarati Wikipedia, one of the
administrators conveyed that Gujarati project is almost inactive or dead
(in gujarati વિકિપીડિયા ગુજરાતી પ્રોજેક્ટ લગભગ બંધ છે.).
This is very shameful for anybody to convey wrong message. If one is not
aware of the project activity, despite of presentation made by one of the
Gujarati Wikipedian in WikiConference India and from the site
statistics/traffic report shared with all Indian WIki Language wikipedia by
Wikimedia Foundation's India chapter (Shiju Alex recently shared this),
they should have accepted their lack of knowledge and conveyed that they
are not aware of what's happening with Gujarati Wikipedia or they are
ignorant of its state. It is damaging for the growing community that in
such vital events people convey wrong message to the masses.
I hope some of the attendess of the meetup would read this and correct
their mistake by spreading the word of Gujarati WIkipedia and its current
state in successive meetups as their moral duty to pay back the debt.
This email is not at all intended to hurt anyone, but just to make everyone
aware that there has never been a single day, including Gujarati New Year
day or Uttarayan, when gu.wiki would have fewer than 50 edits. What else
could be an indication of how active this project is? We have almost 22,000
pages on gu.wiki. If anyone need full statistics, please contact me and I
will be more than happy to share the same.
Regards,
Dhaval
Hello everyone,
As said earlier couple of weeks ago in my mail, I covered the Lakhota
Museum Jamnagar through my camera as a part of small GLAM activity, I am
happy to announce that my work is almost over.
I urge everyone to have a look at Lakhota Museum
Jamnagar<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Lakhota_Museum_Jamnagar>
Gallery.
Two of the images from it Lakhota
(building)<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lakhota_Lake_Museum.JPG>
and
Shri Ranjit Singh<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Shri_Ranjit_Singhji.JPG>
got
rated as Quality Image too.
Also some of the images in exhibit section at the bottom have some problems
like reflection of light from the room, its simply because I was in a bit
hurry to cover the entire museum, and it was my debut to cover any museum.
I would love to hear from you guys about it. Please do reply.

*A group of amateur photographers, decked up in woollens and armed with
their cameras, set out to capture glimpses of the city on Tuesday morning.
They had gathered at Gandhi Ashram for the ‘Wiki Takes The City’ walk
organised by Wikimedia Foundation, which had invited Amdavadis to take
photographs of the city. The selected photographs will be uploaded on
Wikipedia. *
*
*
*The walk witnessed participation from 70 people, including 20 school
students. Then the participants dispersed in their respective groups to
three locations — Walled city, Gujarat University area and ISRO area. The
walk concluded at 1 pm after which the participants had to upload their
best photographs. *
*
*
*197 pictures, two hours *
*
*
*Noopur Raval, coordinator of Wikimedia India Chapter, said, “As many as
197 photographs were uploaded within two hours of the event. Every
participant was sent on a route that had ten monuments. Hence, we expected
around 50 photos to be clicked by each of them.”*
*
*
*Like Maulik Joshi and Abhishek Joshi, both software engineers, many
participants had taken a leave from work to participate in the event.
Maulik, who was in the group that took pictures of Gujarat University area,
said, “This is an attempt to portray best of Ahmedabad through
photographs.” *
*
*
*Agreed Maulik, “Photography is my passion. It feels great to be part of
such events wherein we get a chance to show the real Ahmedabad to the world

we had never noticed earlier.”*

*Twenty-year-old Bijal Parikh, who is pursuing graphic designing in
Ahmedabad, said, “It is a great platform to meet new people who have a
passion for photography. I have clicked more than 100 photos and they are
people-centric. Since they would be uploaded on Wikipedia, I clicked photos
which people can connect to.”*
*
*
*She added, “Many youngsters participated in the walk. This shows that we
youngsters are concerned about our heritage, monuments and the city
itself.” *
*
*
*Encourage people*
*The aim was to encourage people to take photographs of as many local sites
and city specific objects of cultural heritage as possible for Wikipedia

Hello everyone,
I don't know if you all are aware about "Wikipedia Takes Ahmedabad". It was
a first ever kind of photo walk held in Ahmedabad on 3rd Jan 2012 with the
help of Noopur, Anirudh (en wp admin) and Srikeit(en wp admin).
The buzz had already been created in press and media about it, and to a
surprise about 80+ people turned up on that morning and different routes
were decided previously with respective Team Coordinators, and thus they
were set free in the city.
And the result turned out to be marvelous. 676 images of Ahmedabad so for
on Commons right now.
Do have a look at it http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Ahmedabad_1.
This category was specially created for this event only.
Now feel free to use these images on Gujarati WP on relevant articles.
Do please leave a "Thanks" to Noopur, Anirudh and Srikeit. They deserve it.

Dear Friends at Wiki,
Thanks to the efforts of Dhavalbhai that I could join in the session - not
on behalf of any organisation, but on my own.
It was nice to discuss about a few points, that is, about Writing
guidelines. We talked about issues, language, the content should be "to the
point" rather than using ornamental language.
It would be nice to have these sessions, fortnightly or monthly, depending
on convenience, feasibility..
For future, maybe an agenda is framed beforehand, prior to the meeting, and
circulated, so that everyone is aware of it.
Dhavalbhai, thank you, once again. Sorry for the delay in replying, as I
was unwell.
Happy 2012 to everyone!

Hello Friends,
We had our very first successful online session this morning. I must thank
Roopalben (on behalf of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad) for joining it despite
of her prior social commitment, which she had to postponed just for this
session.
I had confirmation of 5 users and was expecting a couple of more old wines
to join, but only one user joined and one apologised through email for not
being able to join due to power failure.
We discussed a couple of issues in the session and it was very useful. I
will like Roopalben to share her experience here, what she thought about it
and whether it was really useful from her perspective.
I would like these sessions to be made regular, at least fortnightly. As
there was not much attendance this morning, I assume it was not a right
time to have the session. If so, and you want to suggest a different
time/day/frequency, please don't be shy and drop a line to me or leave your
comments on the discussion on Wikipedia Chotaro. This is for the benefit of
community and for the benefit of Gujarati Wikipedia.
Looking forward to your active participation.
Yours,
Dhaval S. Vyas

*Members of Wikipedia's Wikimedia Commons (a repository of free images,
sound and other multimedia files which may be used in other projects on the
Wikimedia servers) will move around in Ahmedabad on January 3 from 8.30am
to 1pm clicking pictures of prominent places of the city and will upload
them on the internet through Creative Commons Licenses.*
*
*
*Explaining this, treasurer, Wikimedia India, Anirudh Bhati, informed that
under the aegis of this license, pictorial facts about the city will be
available to users free of cost. "The license is called, 'Creative Commons
Attribution - Sharealike License' and under this licensing certificate, we
can release to media in a manner that can be used for commercial and
non-commercial purposes without any royalty. Even now people make use of
pictures without paying royalty, but that is unethical", Bhati said.*
*
*
*Currently, pictures and matter available online are copyright of authors.
However, this licence will help end users to download pictures and also
modify them as per their requirements, without explicit permission of the
authors, Bhati said.*
*
*
*"By the release of creative works, free of cost, we are trying to create
culture and environment which is free."*
*
*
*"For this purpose, on January 3, nearly 230 people will gather outside
Gandhi Ashram. We will divide the group into four teams and will coordinate
accordingly. These pictures will then be uploaded in Wikimedia Commons and
will be made available to all Wikipedias", Bhati informed. Noopur
Raval, another member of Wikimedia India, said: "This will help us
place Ahmedabad
city on the global world."*
