ભાઈઓ અને બહેનો,
વિકિસ્રોતની પ્રથમ વર્ષગાંઠ નજીક આવી રહી છે. ગઈ વખતે વેબગોષ્ઠિમાં જોડાયેલા
મિત્રોને અને તેનો અહેવાલ વાંચ્યો/સાંભળ્યો હોય તેવા સૌને ખ્યાલ હશે કે આપણે એ
ઘટનાની ઉજવણી માટે તૈયારીઓ શરૂ કરી દીધી છે. ટપાલયાદિમાં નવા જોડાયેલા સભ્યોને
જણાવવાનું કે ગુજરાતી વિકિસ્રોત ૨૭ માર્ચના રોજ એક વર્ષનું થશે. આપણે તે
વિકિસ્રોતની પ્રથમ વર્ષગાંઠ ઉજવવા માટે ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય ક્ષેત્રે જાણીતી એવી
સંસ્થા રૂપાયતનમાં એક ખાસ કાર્યક્રમનું આયોજન કર્યું છે. કાર્યક્રમની વધુ

રૂપાયતન સંસ્થાનો ઘણો ઘણો આભાર કે જેણે આપણા આ કાર્યક્રમના યજમાન બનવાની
તૈયારી દર્શાવી છે. તેમની અનુમતિથી આપણે આગામી ૩૧મી માર્ચને રવિવારના દિવસે
સવારે દસથી એક દરમ્યાન જૂનાગઢ નજીકના ગીરનારની તળેટીમાં આવેલા ભવનાથ ખાતે
આવેલી સંસ્થા રૂપાયતનમાં આ કાર્યક્રમ યોજીશું. સૌ વિકિમિત્રોને ભાવભર્યું
આમંત્રણ છે. સાથે સાથે સૌને અનુરોધ છે કે વહેલી તકે અમને હું પણ ઉપસ્થિત

આ સાથે આપ સૌને જણાવતા આનંદ થાય છે કે આ કાર્યક્રમની આગળ-પાછળના સમયમાં બીજા
બે મોટા કાર્યક્રમો પણ ગોઠવાયા છે.
- ૨૯ માર્ચ શુક્રવારે અમદાવાદમાં આવેલી ગુજરાત વિદ્યાપીઠમાં એક પ્રેઝન્ટેશન
અને ત્યાર બાદ રસ ધરાવતા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ માટે નાનકડી વર્કશોપનું આયોજન કરવામાં
આવ્યું છે.
- ૬ એપ્રિલને શનિવારે મુંબઈમાં 'ઝરુખો' કે જે સાહિત્યકારો અને
સાહિત્યરસિકોનું ગ્રુપ છે તેમાં પણ એક પ્રેઝન્ટેશનનું આયોજન છે.
તમારા સૌના શુભાશિષો અને સાથ-સહકારની અત્યંત આવશ્યકતા છે. રૂપાયતનમાં યોજાનારા
કાર્યક્રમમાં શક્ય તેટલા વધુ વિકિમિત્રો (વિકિપીડિયા અને વિકિસ્રોતમાંથી)

આજના આ કાર્યક્રમમાં હાજર રહેલ ગુજરાત વિદ્યાપીઠનાં મિત્રોને ગુજરાતી વિકિપીડિય અને વિકિસ્ત્રોતની કામગીરી વિશે ધવલભાઇ વિગતે સમજ આપી. તે પછીથી હાજર રહેલ દરેક મિત્રોએ વિકિસ્ત્રોત દ્વારા રજીસ્ટ્રેશનની પ્રક્રિયાપણ પૂરી કરી અને પ્રયોગિક ધોરણે ગાંધીજીનાં પુસ્તક 'મંગળપ્રભાત'નું અક્ષરાંકન કર્યું.
એ બધાં મિત્રોને વિકિકુટુંબમાં આવકાર છે.

The data obtained is for the period from January 2001 to December
2012 and has been visualized into motion charts and calendar charts. The

રહેશે. છતાં સમયની અનુકૂળતા હશે તો તેઓશ્રી પધારશે.
વિદ્વાન લેખક અને ઇતિહાસકાર પ્રદ્યુમ્નજી ખાચરને વ્યોમજી અને હું આમંત્રણ
આપી આવ્યા. તેઓએ વિકિપીડિયા અને સ્રોત વિશે ઘણો જ ઉત્સાહ દર્શાવ્યો. અમે
બંન્નેએ વિકિ કઈ રીતે કાર્ય કરે છે તે વિશે તેઓશ્રીને પ્રાથમિક વિગતો પણ
જણાવી. તેઓશ્રીએ કાર્યક્રમમાં હાજરી આપવા સંમતિ આપી છે.
વધુ એક શિક્ષણ સંકુલ, એન.બી.કાંબલીયા વિદ્યાલયનાં ટ્રસ્ટીગણ અને
આચાર્યગણને આમંત્રણ આપી આવ્યા.

આપ સૌ જાણો જ છો કે આપણે વિકિસ્રોતની પ્રથમ વર્ષગાંઠની ઉજવણીનો કાર્યક્રમ
તા:૩૧-૩-૨૦૧૩નાં રોજ રૂપાયતન, જૂનાગઢ ખાતે રાખ્યો છે. આ સાથે આ
કાર્યક્રમનું આમંત્રણપત્ર, અને કાર્યક્રમની ગોઠવણ સંબંધે કેટલીક વિગતો
મોકલાવું છું. (આપે હજુ સ્રોત પરના કાર્યક્રમના પાને નોંધણી ન કરી હોય,
હાજરી આપવા ઇચ્છતા હોય, તો કૃપયા વહેલાસર નોંધણી કરાવશોજી. જેથી અમોને
વ્યવસ્થા કરવાનું સુગમ પડે. આભાર.)
પ્રબંધકશ્રી ધવલભાઈ આ કાર્યક્રમમાં હાજરી આપવા માટે યુ.કે.થી ભારત પહોંચી
ગયા છે. તેઓ શનિવારે જૂનાગઢ પહોંચશે. સાથે વિકિસ્રોતનાં પ્રબંધકશ્રી
સુશાંતભાઈ પણ જૂનાગઢ પહોંચશે.
બહારગામથી પધારનારા, વિકિસ્રોત પર કન્ફર્મેશન આપનારા, સૌ વિકિમિત્રો
પોતાના સ્થળેથી જૂનાગઢ કઈ રીતે અને ક્યારે પહોંચવાના છે તે વિગત અને
પોતાનો મોબાઈલ નંબર કૃપયા મને (અશોક મોઢવાડીયાને) મેઈલ કરે. પધારેલા
સર્વે મિત્રો માટે ઉતારાની વ્યવસ્થા કરવામાં આવી છે. પધારનારા સર્વે
મિત્રોને વિનંતી કે મોડામા મોડા સવારે ૮-૦૦ સુધીમાં આ ઉતારાના સ્થળે
પહોંચવા પ્રયાસ કરે. આપણે સૌ વિકિમિત્રોનું
ત્યાં એકત્રીકરણ કરી અને સાથે જ કાર્યક્રમ સ્થળે જઈશું. દૂરના સ્થળેથી
પધારનારા મિત્રો આગલે દિવસે પધારશે તો એમને રાત્રીરોકાણની વ્યવસ્થા પણ
ત્યાં જ, ઉતારાસ્થળે, કરાયેલી છે.
કાર્યક્રમની વિગતો જોઈએ તો;
સવારે ૯-૦૦ થી ૧-૦૦ સુધી રૂપાયતન ખાતે કાર્યક્રમ રહેશે. જેમાં સાથેના
આમંત્રણપત્રમાં જણાવ્યા પ્રમાણેના વિવિધ કાર્યક્રમો રહેશે. (જો કે
ક્રમમાં ફેરફાર શક્ય છે.) કાર્યક્રમની સમાપ્તિ પછી ત્યાં રૂપાયતન ખાતે જ
આપણે સૌએ સહભોજન લેવાનું છે. પધારનારા સર્વે મિત્રોને વિનંતી કે,
વિકિસ્રોત પરના પોતાના કાર્યાનુભવ કે અન્ય મિત્રો, મહેમાનો સાથે
વહેંચવાલાયક વાતો વિશે બે-ત્રણ મિનિટની એક સ્પીચ તૈયાર કરી રાખે. આપણે સૌ
મિત્રોએ ત્યાં એ સ્પીચ આપવાની થશે. (જો કે આ માત્ર સ્વૈચ્છીક જ રહેશે,
ફરજીયાત નથી !)
વિકિપીડિયા અને સ્રોત વિષયે આશરે ૩૦-૩૦ મિનિટનાં બે પ્રવચન/સ્લાઈડ શૉ
યોજાશે. જે અનુક્રમે ધવલભાઈ અને સુશાંતભાઈ રજૂ કરશે. જન્મદિવસની ઉજવણી
આપણે કેક કાપીને (અને પછી ખાઈને !!) કરીશું.
આપણે વિકિમિત્રો ઉપરાંત થોડાએક આમંત્રીત મહેમાનો કાર્યક્રમમાં ઉપસ્થિત
રહેશે. જેમાં શહેરની શાળા-કોલેજનો (સમયની અનુકૂળતા હોય એવા) શિક્ષકગણ,
ગ્રંથપાલો અને શહેરનાં કેટલાંક ગણમાન્ય નાગરિકો, રસ ધરાવતા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ
ઉપરાંત બહારગામથી પધારનારા આમંત્રીત મહેમાનો હશે. હાલ આપણાં આયોજનમાં
આપણે ૭૫-૮૦ જેટલાં લોકોની ઉપસ્થિતિનો અંદાજ રાખ્યો છે.
આપણાં સભ્યશ્રી નિલેશભાઈનાં પ્રયાસને કારણે આપણને રૂપાયતન સંસ્થા ખાતે
આપણો કાર્યક્રમ યોજવાનું આમંત્રણ મળ્યું છે. ભોજનની વ્યવસ્થા વિકિમિડિયા
(ઈન્ડિયા) અને સંસ્થાના સહયોગથી કરાયેલી છે.
મુખ્ય કાર્યક્રમ પછી થોડા વિશ્રામ બાદ આપણે સૌ જૂનાગઢનાં કેટલાંક
જોવાલાયક સ્થળોની મુલાકાત અને ફોટોવોક કરીશું. શક્યતઃ કોઈ એક સંસ્થા કે
સ્થળની શુભેચ્છા મુલાકાત પણ લઈશું. સાંજ સમયે ઝાંઝરડા યુવકમંડળ દ્વારા
આપણને આમંત્રણ અપાયું હોય તેઓની મુલાકાત, ત્યાં એકત્ર યુવકોને
વિકિસ્રોત/વિકિપીડિયા વિશે પ્રાથમિક સમજૂતી અને સભ્ય બનવા ઇચ્છતા યુવાઓને
સભ્યપદ આપવાનો કાર્યક્રમ રાખેલો છે. આ પછી આપણી મહેમાનનવાજી કે
શુભેચ્છારૂપે વાડીએ ’ભજીયાપાર્ટી’નું આયોજન યુવકમંડળ દ્વારા કરાયું છે
એનો આનંદ લઈશું. આમ રાત્રે લગભગ ૯-૦૦ સુધી આપણો કાર્યક્રમ ગોઠવાયેલો છે.
સંભવ હોય તો દૂરના સ્થળેથી પધારતા સર્વે મિત્રો રાત્રી રોકાણનું આયોજન
કરી પધારે. રાત્રી રોકાણની સગવડ ઉપરોક્ત ઉતારાએ રાખેલી જ છે.

મિત્રો,
વિકિસ્રોત પર વિહરમાન સહકાર્ય પરિયોજના "હિંદ સ્વરાજ!" અને "માણસાઈના દીવા" પુસ્તકનું અક્ષરાંકન પણ પૂર્ણ થઈ ગયું છે.
"માણસાઈના દીવા" એ રવિશંકર મહારાજની વાતો વર્ણવે છે. આ પરિયોજનાનું સંચાલન અશોકભાઈ મોઢવડીયાએ સંભાળ્યું. પરિયોજના ૨૦-૦૨-૨૦૧૩ ના શરૂ થઈ અને તે ૧૨-૦૩-૨૦૧૩ ના પૂર્ણ થઈ. આ પરિયોજનામાં અશોક મોઢવાડીયા, સતિષચંદ્ર, વ્યોમ, અશોકભાઈ વષ્ણવ, દેવેંદ્રસિઁહ ગોહિલ, જયમ પટેલ અને સુશાંત સાવલાએ ભાગ લીધો હતો.
"હિંદ સ્વરાજ"એ આદર્શ હિંદુસ્તાન કેવું હોવું જોઈએ અને સત્યાગ્રહનો અર્થ સમજવાતું ગાંધીજી લિખિત પુસ્તક છે. આ પરિયોજના નવયુવાન સભ્ય વ્યોમના વ્યવસ્થાપન હેઠળ ચાલી. પરિયોજના ૨૮-૦૨-૨૦૧૩ ના શરૂ થઈ અને તે ૧૩-૦૩-૨૦૧૩ ના પૂર્ણ થઈ. આ પરિયોજનામાં સતિષચંદ્ર, વ્યોમ, સુશાંત, અશોકભાઈ વષ્ણવએ ભાગ લીધો હતો.
સૌ મિત્રોનો ખૂબ ખૂબ આભાર.
આ સાથે નવી પરિયોજના ક્રમાંક ૧૮ હેઠળ ઝવેરચંદ મેઘાણીનું પુસ્તક "કંકાવટી" શરૂ કરીએ છીએ. આ પુસ્તક ગુજરાતમાં પરંપરાએ કરવામાં આવતા ઉપવાસ - વ્રતને આવરી લેતી કથાઓ ઉપર આઅધારિત છે. જે મિત્રોને સહકાર્યના આ કાર્યમાં સહભાગી થવું હોય તેઓ નીચે દર્શાવેલી કડી પર સંપર્ક કરશો.

Wikimedia Foundation, beginning from September 1, 2012, awarded
the Centre for Internet & Society (CIS) a two-year grant of INR
26,000,000 to support and develop free knowledge in India. Consequently,
Wikimedia Foundation's India Program became the Access to Knowledge
(A2K) program [1] of CIS. In the second issue of our newsletter for
2013, we are glad to introduce you to our new programme officer, Dr.
U.B. Pavanaja [2]. The A2K team [3] consists of four members based in
Delhi: T. Vishnu Vardhan [4], Nitika Tandon [5], Subhashish Panigrahi
[6] and Noopur Raval [7], and one new team member Dr. U.B. Pavanaja [8]
who works from Bangalore office. Archives of our newsletters are here

# New Team
Member
* Dr. U.B. Pavanaja [11] joined the A2K team as Programme
Officer, India Language Initiatives on March 4, 2013. Dr. Pavanaja holds
a Master's degree from Mysore University and Ph.D. from Mumbai
University. He was a scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai,
for about 15 years. He is one of the oldest editors of Kannada
Wikipedia. He has to his credit many firsts, viz., first Kannada
website, first Kannada online magazine, first Indian language (Kannada)
website to receive Golden Web Award, first Indian language (Kannada)
editor for Palm OS, first Indian language (Kannada) editor for WinCE
device (HP Jornado 720), first Indian language version (Kannada) of
universally popular Logo (programming language for children) software,
etc. His Kannada logo won the Manthan Award for the year 2006. He was a
member of the technical advisory committee setup by the Govt. of
Karnataka for Standardization of Kannada on Computers (2000). He is also
a member of the Kannada Software Committee of Govt. of Karnataka
(2008-current).

CIS was registered as a
society in Bangalore in 2008. As an independent, non-profit research
organisation, it runs different policy research programmes such as
Accessibility, Access to Knowledge, Openness, Internet Governance, and
Telecom. The policy research programmes have resulted in outputs such as
the e-Accessibility Policy Handbook for Persons with Disabilities [30]
with ITU and G3ict, and Digital Alternatives with a Cause? [31],
Thinkathon Position Papers [32] and the Digital Natives with a Cause?
Report [33] with Hivos, etc. We have conducted policy research for the
Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and

accredited as an observer at WIPO. CIS staff participates in the
Standing Committee for Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) meetings

comments on them from a public interest perspective. Our Policy
Director, Nirmita Narasimhan won the National Award for Empowerment of
Persons with Disabilities [37] from the Government of India and also
received the NIVH Excellence Award [38].

I take immense pleasure in (re)introducing Dr. U.B
Pavanaja to the entire Wikimedia community! Dr. Pavanaja has joined the
Access to Knowledge team at CIS as a consultant from March 4 onward.
Those associated with Indian language computing and especially that in
Kannada may know him already for having started the first Kannada
website: Vishvakannada.com, the first Kannada online magazine, the first
Indian language (Kannada) website to receive Golden Web Award, the first
Indian language (Kannada) editor for Palm OS and many more firsts.
Dr.
Pavanaja holds a Master's degree from Mysore University and Ph.D. from
Mumbai University. He was a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research
Centre, Mumbai, for about 15 years and has done advanced research in
Taiwan. He resigned from BARC in 1997 and dedicated himself fully for
the cause of Computer and Indian languages. You could read more about
his contributions here [1]. Prior to this he has also worked at
Microsoft Research Labs and has been a long time contributor to Kannada
Wikipedia.
We are very fortunate to have him on board. You can reach
