India and discuss strategising TWL activities in India. This event has
been primarily designed to understand the needs and document the
insights from experienced Wikimedians about libraries/sources
(references) in India. More about the event may be referred from the
event page.
The application form is at: https://goo.gl/forms/NvwYttEeCFfl30rG3;
last date 25 November 2018.
The event is to be held in the first or second weeks of Jan 2019
(tentative); Venue will be informed later.
The eligibility guidelines are applicable as mentioned here [3].

Dear all,
Many will already be aware of the new maps available on the wiki -
Wikimedia Maps [1] which are created using data from the crowdsourced map
data project - OpenStreetMap [2] that opens up possibilities like truly
multiingual open maps [3] and geovisualizations [4] on the wiki.
The OpenStreetMap mapping community in Asia is organizing a conference in
Bengaluru next week - State of the Map Asia [5] at the beautiful Indian
Institute of Management Bangalore campus on the weekend of Nov 17-18.
Participants includes scholarships recipients from the region sharing their
stories of using the crowdsource map project for various initiatives and is
highly relevant to Wikimedians interested in maps, data, visualizations,
civic activism, street photographs.
There will be quite a few Wikimedians attending and there is a session on
Wikimedia Maps by Naveen Francis. There will be plenty of opportunities to
have BoFs on the overlap between Wikimedia and OpenStreetMap communities in
Asia.
Student discounts are available. Please register before November 12th and
do share in relevant open source circles that will help grow the open

Subject: [Wikimediaindia-l] Indic Wikisource Community Consultation 2018
To: Discussion list on Indian language projects of Wikimedia. <
wikimediaindia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello Indic Wikimedians,
A Community Consultation on Indic Wikisource will take place on 24-25
November in Kolkata. Pre-event session is on 23 November early evening.
The objectives of the consultation are:
1. Share views and preferences on the most effective ways to pursue our
shared vision of creating and sharing free knowledge in India and in the
Indian languages (including English Wikisource) around the world through
Indic Wikisource Project.
2. Attempt to come to agreement on a roadmap for a future where our
resources are better utilized, our volunteers are better served, and
progress on our mission is more steadily attained.
In summary, the current state of affairs in supporting the growth, health,
and motivation of Wikisource volunteers in India leaves much to be desired.
Recently, some specific developments in Google OCR, have led us to decide
we should attempt to facilitate, and hopefully rebuild, a *shared vision* for
the future of Wikisource work in India. We intend to be open to any of a *wide
range* of possible futures, with both formal and informal ways to create
shared identity and purpose.
We have selected and invited *one potential* active volunteer from each
Indic Wikisource language Community.Focusing on *active contributors* with
(ideally) a longer track record, to maximize the amount of experience and
context in the room while retaining the legitimacy that can only come from
including active contributors. That said, we *did* one active contributors.
Please see the event page here:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Indic_Wikisource_Community_Consultation_2018>*
Note: We will organize Community Consultation/Workshop programme on each
Indic language Wikisource community in coming month. If you are interested
to do the same for your Wikisource language community, please let me know
and mail me at jayanta(a)cis-india.org
Thanks
Jayanta Nath
