Welcome to the Wikipedia Education Update — a newsletter from the Wikimedia Foundation
that is distributed the first and third Tuesday of each month. Someone from our staff has
talked with you about our Wikipedia Education Program to bring Wikipedia into higher
education classrooms around the world, and we wanted to keep you in the loop on all of our
exciting activities. If you would prefer not to receive these messages, simply reply to
the email and ask for your address to be removed. Learn more about subscribing or read the
archives.
Education Program features new visual identity
Participants in the Wikipedia Education Program are now able to create logos and other
designs for country, city, university, or other regional groups through a do-it-yourself
manual and logo assets. The new visual identity for the program, designed by David Peters,
allows a theme to permeate the entire program, while allowing individual regions to create
their own logos with colors or symbols that have meaning for that region. The concept is
based on the highly successful Wikipedia 10th Anniversary party designs. Learn more and
get started designing your own logo!
The Guardian covers Wikipedia Education Program
British newspaper the Guardian published a long article last week that talked about the
various facets of the Wikipedia Education Program in operation around the world. The
reporter talked to Wikimedia Foundation staff and professors who had used Wikipedia as a
teaching tool in their classes in the past. Read the article.
News feed created for Cairo Pilot
The Cairo Pilot will be trying a new way of keeping the Arabic Wikipedia community and
other interested people informed about the day-to-day operations of the Wikipedia
Education Program. Cairo Ambassadors and staff will be updating the @WikipediaEduCairo
identi.ca handle with updates in Arabic and English, and these updates will be mirrored on
Twitter, Facebook, and a page on the Arabic Wikipedia. Check out the page for the latest
news.
Join next Metrics and Activities meeting tomorrow
The Wikipedia Education Program Metrics and Activities meeting is a monthly opportunity
for people around the world to gather and share learnings about using Wikipedia as a
teaching tool in university classrooms. Program leaders from all Education Programs in
operation give short updates about the status of their programs and any broad learning
points they feel would be useful for other programs to hear. The meeting is open for
anyone to attend, and the next meeting is on Wednesday, February 22 at 16:00 UTC. Join the
meeting.
