Dear community members,
We would like to invite the Wikimedia communities and collaborators to a Panel hosted by Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) representatives, UN Human Rights, and UNEP. The panel will include stakeholders in the field of science, human rights and technology. The event aims to highlight critical issues surrounding access to scientific knowledge and technology, the right to benefit from science, and the accessibility of data on environmental matters. The discussion will explore the links between science and human rights, including the rights to benefit from science and its applications, to access information, and to meaningful and informed participation. The meta page of the event can be found here https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:WikiForHumanRights_2024_Expert_Panel .
Wikimedia communities and projects are one of the most important platforms for gathering the knowledge we need to address our current environmental crises while building a just and sustainable future for all. Wikimedians who participate in the panel will better understand how they can be part of enhancing global access to scientific data and technology, and advance the collaboration between scientists, policy-makers, Indigenous Peoples, and the public via platforms like Wikipedia.
The event is part of the larger #WikiForHumanrights Campaign https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiForHumanRights hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation, where volunteer communities around the world improve Wikipedia content related to human rights. The 2024 theme for the campaign is “Knowledge for a Sustainable Future”. Other community events can be found here https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiForHumanRights/Join_Community_Events.
This event will take place on June 13th at 14:00 UTC, hosted on the Zoom platform. Please register using the Registration link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:WikiForHumanRights_2024_Expert_Panel from the meta page. The event will be held in the English language, translation will be provided in the following languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, French and Arabic.
