If there is a squatted name that people *really* like, there could also be a ranked vote and if the most popular name is one that is being squatted or is in light use we could see if it was reasonably available before moving to the next name on the list.

Domain names that are not already owned typically go for $10. There are some like Wikiplanet that are being sold for $25,000. The latter is thus not an option.
