InstantCommons is _not_ live. The code itself says it's very hacky and inefficient and should only be used for testing. Additionally, with no local caching (I implemented some preliminary description-page caching last night, still in development though), it'll just add to the WMF server load on _every_ pageview of your local wiki.
Hmm, thinking about this, caching should be done by the end-browser, not by the "local wiki". The "local wiki" should never have to see the traffic in the first place. It's just a waste of bandwidth to transfer from commons to the local wiki then from the local wiki to the browser.
