I'm not entirely certain it's a good idea to "technologize" such very basic user interactions. It takes as much work to "thank" someone using notifications as it does to leave them a talk page message.

I can see it now - a thank link that goes to the user's talkpage and opens a new section edit window, maybe with the header prefilled... but that would force a real interaction, and encourage real discussion...
