Hey all!
I wanted to send a quick reminder that our English language fundraiser is
officially launching tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 28th November, at 16.00
UTC) with some final systems tests running between now and then.
---Banners and Ideas---
You can see the all of our current most effective fundraising banners on
our Fundraising Ideas page where you can also contribute any specific ideas
or stories we should tell via social media, banners, emails etc:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising/2017-18_Fundraising_ideas
---Blog Posts---
We've recently published two blog posts about our fundraising work. The
first covers how we try to limit the disruption to our readers during
campaigns. The second is a recent tranche of research conducted into what
our readers think about our fundraising. Take a look!

do report it on phabricator:

If you see a donor on a talk page, OTRS, or social media with questions
about donating or having difficulties in the donation process, please refer
them to: donate{{at}}wikimedia.org

---Next Updates---
There will be a further launch announcement on the Wikimedia blog tomorrow
and I will give a brief update at the end of the week with our progress and
hopefully some interesting initial lessons learnt. A more substantial
update will follow later in the week.
Finally, I’d like to thank the community here in advance for your help and
patience over the coming weeks. From here on out, wish us luck!
Many Thanks

Hey everyone,
The Community Wishlist Survey is now open, and you can post proposals
for projects that you would like the Wikimedia Foundation's Community
Tech team to work on:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2019
The Community Tech team builds features and makes changes that active
Wikimedia contributors want, and the Wishlist Survey sets the team's
agenda for the next year.
The Wishlist Survey starts with a two-week proposal period, when
contributors from all Wikimedia projects are invited to post, discuss
and improve proposals. After that, there's a two-week voting period,
when everyone can post support-votes on the proposals.
You can post technical proposals until 11 November.
You can vote on proposals from 16 November to 30 November.
The Community Tech team is responsible for addressing the top ten
wishes on the list. If they, after investigating it, find that
something isn't feasible, they need to explain why to the community.
The Wishlist can also be used by volunteer developers and other teams,
who want to find projects to work on that the community really wants.

Dear all,
As a step forward to increase community participation in the user group
activities, the Wikipedia & Education User Group is organising logo

nominate a new logo for the newly formed user group. The nomination period
starts from tomorrow i.e. 23 November 2019, and ends on 16 December 2018.
It will be followed by a voting round.
Rules for the challenge and other details can be seen at:

Please reach out to me if you have any questions. We are looking forward to
see your creations.

*WikiFundi is a software that provides an off-line editing environment
that mimics the Wikipedia environment. WikiFundi allows for training and
contribution when technology, access and electricity outages fail or are
not available at all. It enables individuals, groups and communities to
learn how to edit Wikipedia or Vikidia, and to work on articles
collaboratively. Once connected to the internet, the articles can be
uploaded online on Wikipedia or Vikidia (manually, no automatic syncing).*

The plateform has been developed by Florence Devouard (Anthere),
Emmanuel Engelhard (Kelson), Florent Kaisser, Renaud Gaudin, and other
members of the community, in collaboration with Kiwix and Wikimedia CH.
The development of this software is made possible thanks to the
Wikimedia Foundation and the Orange Foundation. The WikiFundi software

The WikiFundi software is intended to support the WikiAfrica

volunteers across Africa. It is published by the South-Africa based

Hello Wikimedia-l,
One subject that continues to be a source of concern for me is that I'd
like to have a greater quantity and greater diversity of participants on
Wikimedia-l. I have heard that some people feel that their English skills
are not good enough to participate here, and I don't know what more we can
do to help with them to feel welcome to participate regardless of their
choice of language or their level of English skills.
Also, I sometimes wonder whether some of our more pointed or stressful
discussions on this list make good-faith newbies and quieter people feel
too intimidated to post when I think that no one intends to make them feel
unwelcome.
I hope that this will not sound selfish, but I would like to encourage
people to comment on what could be done to facilitate greater and more
diverse participation in discussions here, and that includes feedback on
how those of us (including me) who frequently post here could do better at
helping people to feel that they have an opportunity to be heard. Although
I would encourage public discussion of these subjects, I also welcome
comments off-list. I realize that it is difficult to balance being candid
with being hospitable, and I am hoping that we can be both.
Thanks,
Pine
