Oggetto: Toolserver decommissioning - migrate to Labs
Data: Mon, 11 Nov 2013 13:57:59 +0000 (UTC)
Mittente: TS Admins <ts-admins(a)toolserver.org>
Dear nemobis,
as you know we are shutting down the Toolserver. Therefore we have
set all accounts to expire on
6th of January 2014
Please migrate your tools to Labs.
For packing and deleting all your stuff except the user-store you can
use the scripts
byebye
and
burnbridges
on nightshade.toolserver.org. The first tool creates tarballs of all
your data except for the user-store and the second tool deletes all
this data as well as expires your account.
Best regards
Your TS admins
On the Wikisource mailing list we are discussing about a contest to
celebrate Wikisource's 10th aniversary.
The contest would be from Nov 24th till Dec 1st. During that time the
participants would proofread a selection of books and they would get points
per page. The one with the most points would win an ebook reader.
So far WM-IT and Amical Wikimedia have comited each the prize for their
respective contests on the Italian and Catalan Wikisource. WM-AU and WM-DC
are considering to sponsor the English edition.
If you would like to help us to organize more language editions or find
more sponsors, get in touch.
If you would like to participate, stay tuned! :)
Cheers,
Micru
The first Wiki photo competition (that I'm aware of) was Wikipedia Takes
Manhattan in Spring 2008.

Dear all,
In the post-mortem of the 2013 community elections to the Board of
Trustees, the Funds Dissemination Committee, and the FDC Ombudsperson,
there was some discussion about the need for a Standing Election Committee
to organize and manage these elections in future. [1]
Building on this, a proposal for a Standing Election Committee has been
developed and may be viewed at:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Standing_Election_Committee
Please help us refine this proposal by sharing your thoughts, feedback and
raising questions that we may not have considered. The Board of Trustees of
the Wikimedia Foundation is concurrently reviewing this proposal.
I would particularly like to call on past and present members of the
Election Committee, board liaisons to the committee, and WMF staff members
who have supported this committee to share their thoughts on this proposal.
Many thanks to Risker, for her contributions to this.
Cheers
Bishakha

Hello everyone,
Wikimedia DC has released its Annual Plan for 2013-14. The plan can be
found on our wiki at http://wikimediadc.org/wiki/Annual_plan_(2013–2014); a
copy will also be posted on meta shortly.
As always, any comments or suggestions would be very welcome.
Cheers,
Kirill

Subject: Interactive WMF org chart
To: WMF staff
Before Mark Holmquist moved on to projects like Parsoid, EtherEditor,
BetaFeatures & MultimediaViewer, he worked on a small project for an
interactive open source org chart viewer/editor, so we don't have to
deal with massive unmaintainable diagrams. If you can't get enough of
WMF org internals, check out the master org chart here:
http://orgcharts.wmflabs.org/#5085aa408fedf26b68000001/
The UI should be _fairly_ self-explanatory. Click on a node and click
"Zoom here" to just see that part of the chart.
No need for anyone to spend a lot of time vetting, but if you do see
inaccuracies, please let Anna (alantz at wikimedia dot org) know.
Boxes with dashed lines are contractors who are not (as of last
update) filling a specific requisition in our hiring plan.

Hello everyone,
As you may already know, the Wikimedia Foundation supports a small but
growing online store meant to give editors a chance to wear their passion
for Wikipedia in shirts, scarves, backpacks, and more. This November, we
will be running a short campaign for logged-in users in the US only,
spreading the word about the store to those who have not had an opportunity
to check it out. This will result in the display of a small banner at the
top of your page from November 11 through November 15, just as a casual
reminder that we’ve got Wikipedia merchandise at 10% off to keep you warm
while you edit!
While the promotion will only be displayed in the US, all international
users are welcome to order through the store and reap the benefits of the
discount. After we work out the kinks in this campaign, we’ll investigate
the possibility of similar international campaigns in the future. The
banner is set to show up to each user only two times. And remember, if you
get tired of seeing the notification, just click the “X” on the banner and
it will disappear.
As always, the proceeds from our online store go toward community events
and our Volunteer Giveaway
Program<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Merchandise_giveaways>,
helping us to recognize fabulous editors who have played an instrumental
role in making Wikipedia what it is today.
If you have any questions about the online store or would like to provide
feedback, feel free to email us at
merchandise(a)wikimedia.org<feedback(a)wikimedia.org>,
or fill out this survey <http://www.formstack.com/forms/?1546304-Ayh5Vr2cgO>.
Finally, I'd like to quickly introduce myself as an alternate resource for
questions on anything shop-related. I am a new addition to the WMF team,
working to support the online fundraiser as well as being the primary point
of contact regarding the online store. Shoot me an email if I can be of any
assistance!
Thank you,
Caitlin Cogdill & the Wikimedia Online Fundraising Team

If that's the goal: are you going to update the Meta-Wiki pages
summarising those topic(s)? For instance there are [[Contests]] (and
[[:Category:Contests]]), [[Incentives]] etc. etc. We have plenty of
stories here and there but little concise complete information.
