As many of you know, the Wikimedia Foundation has an Audit Committee which represents the Board in oversight of financial and accounting issues, including planning, reporting, audits, and internal controls (see http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Audit_committee for details). The Committee serves for one year, from July through the late Spring when the Foundation files its annual tax return in the U.S. This past year the committee included representatives from the broad community, from chapters, and from the Foundation's Board (including me as Committee Chair).
We’ve recently started forming the 2012-2013 Audit Committee and as we did last year would like to call for volunteers from the community. The time commitment is modest, as far as Wikimedia goes: review the Foundation’s financial practices and financial statements/filings, and then participate in three or four conference calls during the year with the staff and our independent auditors at KPMG (see http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Audit_charter for full duties). The primary requirement is “financial literacy,” some kind of professional experience with finance, accounting or audit. It's also worth noting that because it is a governance and oversight role, Committee members cannot serve under a pseudonym.
If you’re interested in serving on the Committee, please email me at stu <at> wikimedia.org with your resume/CV and your thoughts on how you think you could contribute. Thanks.

Hi all,
The August edition of the Fellowship News is now available on meta-wiki:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fellowship_News
Project highlights in this issue include:
Dispute Resolution Project — Steven Zhang monitored a trial
implementing changes to the dispute resolution noticeboard on English
Wikipedia this month. An update on his findings is in the Wikipedia
Signpost this week.
Gender Gap Project — Sarah Stierch has started developing the first
phase of a new WikiWomen's Collaborative project, which seeks to
engage and inspire more women to edit using social media and clear
calls to action.
Help Pages Redesign Project — Peter Coombe has created three new
introductory tutorials for the English Wikipedia, covering
referencing, uploading images, and navigating Wikipedia. He also
released the write-up from this summer's in-person usability tests.
Small Wiki Editor Engagement Project — Tanvir Rahman has been building
new step-by-step help pages on Bangla Wikipedia. The help pages will
be connected into a portal page and the new help page system will be
piloted in September.
Teahouse Project — We've been working on improvements for hosts,
including a simplified new host creation process. HostBot was approved
for an extended trial to send out automated invites to new editors,
contributing to a 50% increase in guest participation.
If you're interested in learning more about any of these projects,
please come read about what Wikimedia fellows have been up to this
month!
Best wishes,

We should by now have enough user data to be able to calculate user
retention rates by skin. It would be interesting to see how the
implementation of Vector affected editor retention rates.

compatibility
* Localisation updates
* Increased accuracy when communicating with GPS satellites
* Disables 'Cancel upload' button when it is too late to cancel
* Bigger touch areas for checkboxes
* Moves {{Uploaded with WLM Mobile}} template to the source field on file
page
* Translated country name on monument page
* Fixed admin level display
* Strip bold/italic apostrophe markup from wikitext fields
* 'Back' after upload no longer returns you to upload progress

We are working on more fixes and enhancements, including a handy way to
upload more photos on Commons. This will make any mobile upload a
convenient placeholder for desktop uploads.
Please let us know if you have any issues by email or on the feedback
page<http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_mobile_application/Feedb…>
.
We have a new page for help with monument data issues:

Hi everyone,
Saturday, September 8th at 17:00 UTC, we're going to have the
monthly office hours for the editor engagement experiments team.
We want to discuss the results from our experiment giving new
editors feedback after they edit, and how we're going to iterate on that.
We also have experiments in-progress or upcoming for the English Wikipedia
Community Portal, account creation process, and more.
* Office hours docs, including time conversion:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Office_hours
* Our docs, including links to more on Meta and MediaWiki.org:

Talk to you Saturday,

Hi all - a blog post has recently been written which details the work I have been doing as a fellow and also outlines my plans for the future. I invite you to read it and would appreciate any comments or feedback you have. You can read the post at http://blog.wikimedia.org/2012/09/05/improving-dispute-resolution-processes…

(Apologies if it was mentioned on this list before; I couldn't find a
thread about this.)
Over a month ago, an equipment exchange forum has been started on
Wikimedia Commons at
<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Equipment_exchange>, aiming
to be a place where "media contributors (...) can request, donate,
sell, or barter equipment for the production of free content,
including camera equipment, computer equipment, art supplies, and
software."
I think it might be worth sharing this idea with the general public;
please forward it to your local mailing lists if you feel it's worth
the attention of your community. Congratulations to Derrick Coetzee
(Dcoetzee) for coming up with this wonderful idea, and many thanks for
his generosity towards another Wikimedia contributor (details on the
page linked above).

Heya folks :)
The next Wikidata office hours are coming up. You're invited to come
and ask your questions - technical or non-technical. Some of the
things to talk about are for example the things listed in the "This
needs your input" box on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata but
other topics are welcome as well.
Unlike previous Wikidata office hours we'll be doing this one in
#wikimedia-office.
English: 5 Sept. at 8:00 UTC

Hope to see many of you there.
