We have open sourced this project for our Linux based appliances and
file systems from Solera Networks. The program reconsutructs
web session and email, and we are adding FTP, P2P, and other Linux
kernel protocols. May be useful for the Wiki community to playback
troublesome sessions. At any rate, its GPL.

LINDON, Utah, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Solera Networks, Inc., the
technology leader in network packet record and playback appliances, today
announced that source code for DataEcho, a web session reconstruction
application, will be made available under the GNU General Public License.
The company has established a community website at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/data-echo. Source code and Windows
installers are available for download now.
DataEcho reconstructs historical web browsing and email traffic from
captured network packets, for monitoring insider security threats and
policy compliance. It is a useful adjunct to network protocol analyzers
such as Sniffer(TM) or WireShark.
In case anybody missed it,
Mozart's complete works were recently published on the
internet by the (Austria-based) International Mozart Foundation.
http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=internetNews&storyID=20…
I'm not sure what license it's under. If it's a free one
(or PD-equivalent), then it's similar in a sense to several
ideas raised in Jimbo's idea drive sometime back.
A thought:
If it is freely licensed, to what extent should the foundation
consider republishing its content on WMF projects? Should WM
avoid possibly stepping on the toes of other projects, avoiding
duplicating any free conttent they make, or should it try to
collect everything (and possibly give prominent credit) that falls
under its mission? The general question may apply to other groups
like Project Gutenberg's works.

I just heard (and saw), that when going to wikipedia.it, there is now
a grey banner at the head, stating "hosted by yepa and a link to
http://wikipedia.it/disclaimer.html". I wonder a bit, whether this has
been discussed with italian wikipedia community and whether WMF is all
right with this (after all this is probably the way through which most
italians access itwiki, rather than via it.wikipedia.org)

Hello
As roughly announced last week, the fundraiser will start *tomorrow*.
A bunch of things still need to be fixed, and in particular, WE NEED
HELP to translate the fundraising page.
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/User:DavidStrauss/Fundraising
We need it at minimum for tomorrow in english, german, french, spanish,
swedish, japanese, italian, dutch...
Please help us with the translation.
The page in on Foundation because it requires html (will not work on
meta) and is using rather complex templates. If you need help and more
generally, please contact Danny (dwool ATTTT wikimedia.org).
These are the most urgent languages, others are welcome as well of
course. Please coordinate either with Danny or with Aphaia and transcom.
Thank you for your help

Hello there,
On behalf of Jd, who would care for fundraising related translation
(but regretfully offline now), I ask you help translation &
localization of several pages on the Foundation.
* Translation
Requests are already submitted on meta:TR. Give a look [[m:TR]] and
help your language translation. They are also the board expansion
related update.
* Localization
As reported, the more currencies you can use on PayPal than before.
If your favorite & local currency is included, it would be nice to
feature it on your language Fundraising page, like
[[Wikimedia:Sponzorství]] in Czeck which put the Czeck currency on the
top of the list.
The currencies accepted on PayPal are: Australian Dollar (AUD),
Canadian Dollar (CAD), Swiss Franc (CHF), Czech Koruna (CZK), Danish
Krone (DKK), Euro (EUR), Pound Sterling (GBP), Hong Kong Dollar (HKD),
Hungarian Forint (HUF), Yen (JPY), Norwegian Krone (NOK), New Zealand
Dollar (NZD), Polish Zloty (PLN), Singapore Dollar (SGD), Swedish
Krona (SEK), U.S. Dollar (USD); Please give a look to your own
language page, and examine if this information is already placed on
that page.
With plenty of templates, you may feel at ease to draft your new
version on meta. You may found it at [[m:Translation
requests/WMF/Fundraising pages]].

Okay.
I rephrase then
A simple hand shake to Nathan Carter (cause I do not know him well)
Łukasz Garczewski, we can look together toward the future if you wish
(retreat type)
Austin Hair will have a hug (cause he needs to get used to noisy
europeans chicks hugging him)
Delphine Ménard, I'll share a room with her in a few days as a sign of
my happiness
Well, another hand sake I guess to Hari Prasad Nadig
And 2 advisers: Somehow... I doubt Andrew was involved in this one...,
Kuddos to Arne.

I would like to invite you to join a chat about the relationship
between the Wikimedia community and the Open Access movement in
scientific publishing. This will explore issues of licensing, content
sharing, technology, and hopefully result in mutual commitments to
collaborate.
In a nutshell: December 17, 2006; irc.freenode.net; 21:00 UTC; #openaccess
Please see:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Open_Access_chat
for more (including a link to a web interface for accessing the IRC
channel). I would appreciate it if you would add yourself to the "I
want to attend!" list on the page, so we have an idea how many people
are coming.

DISCLAIMER: This message does not represent an official position of
the Wikimedia Foundation or its Board of Trustees.
WMF keeps its books in Quickbooks. Quickbooks does not handle multiple
currencies. It was suggested to me that Microsoft Money, which does
handle multiple currencies very well, could be used to track our non-USD
transactions and create journal entries for our regular books. I nearly
threw up thinking about that as a solution.
To those in non-US places, what systems do you use which have
multi-currency? Please email me offline if you like. I am not
particularly interested in the FLOSS debate in this instance. I care
about what absolutely works.

The resolution concerning the agreement between local chapters and WMF
may be found here:
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Resolution:Agreement_between_chapters_a…
More interesting is the agreement itself:
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Agreement_between_chapters_and_Wikimedi…
The agreement proper was essentially drafted by the local chapters
coordinator, Delphine Ménard, the UK chapter, Alison Wheeler and our GC,
Brad Patrick.
That's a good step !
----------
A few comments
* http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Local_chapters needs update
**for example, it still refers to Serbian chapter as S&M chapter
**<small>and the UK chapter is not mentionned</small>
* At the board retreat, guidelines for chapter creation were drafted,
but the draft was never finalized. The board agreed to have the
guidelines validated asap, but can not do it until the guidelines are
actually put down on paper (well, wiki). So, there are still no
guidelines for creation. Can the chapter committee give us a date when
the guidelines will be ready ?
* There is still pending an agreement for commercial use of the
trademarks by the chapters. Let us be realistic, it should not be
expected before a while, because commercial use of the trademarks in
general first need to be analysed and assessed. Let's talk about it in a
couple of months when the work on trademarks themselves is basically done.
