Hi Lodewijk, thank you for the feedback, it's appreciated! For comparison, I uploaded the new file under http://tools.wikimedia.pl/~odder/wlm/ad/ as "Ad_v2vL.pdf". Now let me address your points one by one so that we have a structured and easy-to-follow discussion:
- As mentioned, please make the horizontal spaces between the latin
words a little larger so that people who don't speak it fluently can see clearly where one word ends and the next begins. The small spacing combined with the font choice makes it hard.
This is fixed now.
- It would be nice if you could move the horizontal bar a little further
up, so that there's a tiny bit of air between the bar and the aquaduct.
This is fixed now—I moved the bar just a little to the top of the page.
- Since the Latin text has no point at the end, the English shouldn't
either.
Very true; I removed the period from the English version.
- The 'Wiki' in the logo doesn't come off too great. Not sure how to fix
it.
This is probably because of the shade of grey in the logo. I fixed it by changing it into a darker one (#373737, with the original being #4d4d4d).
- I'd suggest to add a short explanation that this picture is the 2nd
prize winner of 2013, and the highest ranking image from Europe. Also, what is displayed and where it is located.
I disagree—I do not think we should be describing the picture on the advertisement. The space that we can use is limited, and I think there are more important matters to write about; attributing the author and specifying the licence (and source as "Wikimedia Commons") should be enough, in my opinion.
- I'm no fan of the 'also in your neighborhood' phrase in the end - it
suggests that we will be there in /all/ countries. We get close, but don't have that much of a spread unfortunately. Combined with a questionmark it might work, but that would give the 'supported by' a weird touch.
I added this to underline the 'local' part of the competition (after having re-read our Philosophy page yet again). I changed it into 'around the world' as requested, but think that it might still use some improvement.
- In this particular photo, I think the QR code might be nicer above the
horizontal bar. Can someone check its destination?
I am not convinced; I tried playing around with the location of the code, and it does not look good above the bar. We /could/ move it to the left side of the picture, though, but it's generally been my impression that ads have QR codes on the right-hand side (I don't have any data to confirm that though).
The QR code links to http://wwww.wikilovesmonuments.org/?pk_campaign=enostra-ad-qr — it's a Piwik code that I set up for this purpose so that we can track the visits.
- Maybe it would be nice if we can put something in the text about the
past years' successes? Right now, it is a bit too much like an empty promise.
It is a good idea, but I am unable to think of any specific improvements for now. If anyone would like to help out with the text of the ad, just add it to the Etherpad at http://etherpad.wikimedia.org/WLM-2013-advertisement.
