Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hi all,
over the past years, we have had various requests to encourage national
organizers to be transparent in their judging processes and who sits on
their jury. Most of the national organizers are currently transparent about
this already. In the past weeks/month, more conversation around this has
continued with some concerns (valid or not) on certain jury processes.
In this light, the international team intends to institute a new
expectation for national organizers, namely to publish the members of their
jury (be it their username or real life name) at some point. We have not
figured out the practical details yet, but I can imagine that while we
encourage publication on the website, we would ask national organizers to
add a list of jury members to their submission to the international jury -
which we then will publish as well.
We also intend to publish by default the settings of the montage jury tool,
and the number of photos in each round that the national competitions have
used. We're debating whether there should be an opt-out for this year.
We will of course apply at least the same level of transparency to the
international jury.
Before we make this decision, I would like to ask for feedback on this, and
whether there are edge cases we should consider where such transparency
would be harmful. I'll take 1 week to gather some feedback on this, and
then we'll make a final decision. You can respond to this on this mailing
list, or privately to me.
Warmly,
Lodewijk
Hello,
As we are finishing in 3 days and the judging process will start from 1st
October, let us give the access to montage. Our jury coordinator has
already requested in the Montage talk page.

Hi all,
Quick email to give a status update on ErfgoedBot.
For many weeks/months ErfgoedBot was in a very poor state, and it was
unclear whether we could put it back in shape, as the current maintainers
(André and me) have very little availability.
With the help of Maarten, we put in some last minute work [0] and got it
back to a "mostly working state" − as in, from high-level view things seem
to be working fine, however we have not had capacity to investigate recent
reports.
For more information on the services provided by ErfgoedBot
(categorization, maintenance reports, etc.), please see the documentation
on Commons:
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Monuments_database>
Besides, the job notifying uploaders without e-mail enabled is also running
− please see my email from last year for more details:

If you notice issues, please file a task on Phabricator ; however, for the
sake of managing expectations, it is unlikely that they will be
investigated promptly.
Cheers,

Hi all,
There are three updates regarding WIki Loves Monuments 2020 in India
competition, which we do like to share with you.
a) Thanks to Sumitsurai, our jury team has been finalised. You can find
them here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020_in_Ind…>
.
b) All of the monuments in our list
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020_in_Ind…>
will now be connected to WikiDocumetaries
<https://wikidocumentaries-demo.wmflabs.org>, which is a web interface
bringing together information from all Wikimedia sites into one place.
Thanks to Susanna, WikiDocumentaries is also now providing the option to
upload Indian monuments from their site.
c) Krishna and Zache have worked on creating a generalised module
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Module:WLM_India_Wikidata_ID> which can
fetch Wikidata item of the monuments from our list while uploading and in
turn display Wikidata item and relevant external identifier template in
file description. Uploaders now don't have to worry about the monument ID
if they directly upload from our list. This module can also be adapted by
other participating countries which have migrated all their data to
Wikidata and/or having multiple campaigns. We have included the module and
necessary templates in our wlm-in
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaign:wlm-in> campaign. Thanks a
lot, Krishna and Zache.
Regards,
Bodhisattwa

Subject: Iran WLM
Hello WLM. I'm Amir Pashaei an architectural photographer from Iran. I
photographed a lot of pictures from Iran's heritage since last year.I
nominated some of them for Featured picture candidates and 37 of them now
Featured .some of the best of them didn't uploaded because I hoped to
winning prize this year and wait for WLM. But I realized WLM Iran's
organizer have decided to not participate this year. But they didn't
announced this decision in the WLM Iran's Instagram page.
I Consulted with [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Wilfredor
Wilfredor] He said I can Participate in holding WLM In Iran. and I
(Pashaei) would help and take care of everything Except for evaluating the
images. If my helping in holding has problem I can find volunteers. Is
there any hope that this will happen? Can I participate my pictures in WLM?
best regards Amir Pashaei

Hi all,
for your information: if your campaign plans to make any use of OTRS, you
may want to think about a backup plan.

I 've already sent the email below to otrs related mailing lists, but
I think wikitech-l can also benefit from this, so here it is.

Hello everyone,
This is to let you know that per
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T187984#6433997 on September 14th
2020 a 48 hour maintenance window for OTRS from 5.0 to 6.0 will begin.
While this is an unusually large time window, the migration process
from 5.0 to 6.0 is rather slow. We have looked into optimizing it, but
at the end preferred to stick with the software developers
recommendations.
During the maintenance window the system will be completely offline. That
means:
* No access over the web to the interface
* No scheduled jobs of any kind will be run
* Email will not be delivered but rather backlogged. It will not be
lost as our MX systems will accept them and put them in the queue.
Once the system is back to being fully functional, the emails will
flow into the system.
We will have a rollback plan ready of course, just in case the
migration goes awry. We already have tested it but something might
arise anyway.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

Hi all,
The following national organizers seem not yet to have confirmed their
participation dates for this year:
- Algeria
- Egypt
- Finland
- Guinea
- Hong Kong
- Ireland
- Norway
- Peru
Please make sure to confirm your participation with dates here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020/Partic…
.
This is important, because of the altered timeline this year
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020/Organi…>
.
Looking forward to an exciting competition this year again! Please do share
what activities you're taking up this year with other countries - we can
all use some inspiration. I saw at least one exciting photography
workshop/masterclass that was hosted online (I think it was Romania?),
which sounds like an excellent idea! Please create a new thread on this
list, and share your ideas or best practices.
Best,
Lodewijk
