Hi all,
A couple of you have reached out to us off-list asking for a sample of
posters for Wiki Loves Monuments. The international team doesn't have
template for posters this year (we probably should, I created a task
to come back to it: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T173950).
However, many of you have been making posters for your competitions
anyway, so let's make sure we share those with each other, for
inspiration and reuse. :)
If you are looking for poster ideas, please check:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_posters
If you have already made some posters that are not in that page,
please upload them on Commons and add
Category:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_posters so others can find them.
Thanks,
Lily

Hi!
Are there any good examples of on-wiki step-by-step upload manuals related
to WLM?
I want to create one for our local contest as we did not have one in
previous editions. Maybe some of our potential participants are just
confused by the process.

Hi all,
Here is a status update about our collaboration with Flickr.
* 5 cities have already signed up to organize photowalks: San
Francisco and Denver in the US, Berlin in Germany, Leon in Spain, and
Melilla. Our Flickr contacts have told us that they expect to see
(many) more cities join in the coming couple of weeks. At this point,
I see discussions about Brisbane, Australia and an invitation for
photowalks in Italy (Thanks, Nemo!)
* In Wikimania, bunch of us sat together and designed a user-flow that
can help Flickr users identify which monuments are eligible, how to
contribute, and how their uploads is to be brought to Wikimedia
Commons.
** Paweł is working on a landing page that Flickr walk organizers
and/or photographers can go to and get information about the eligible
monuments. We will start testing the interface with the 5 cities
mentioned above in the coming days. If you are the point of contact
for the corresponding countries on our end, you may receive pings from
us with question. :)
** Maarten started working on the bot that will read the images on
Flickr and bring them to Commons. (The task is tracked at
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T173056)
* As always, please make sure the list of definitely participating
countries is updated. This is especially critical now that we have
created external dependencies, i.e., people are organizing photowalks
based on the information in this table:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2017/Partic…
That's it for now. :) Comments and questions are welcome!
Best,
Lily

Please continue the discussion about Nepal's list in this new thread.
Thank you all! :)

Hi all,
[I'm still optimistic that I can commit to a weekly update for this
list, hence the subject. Obviously, I've failed on this front so far,
but I'm trying, really! ;)]
We are almost 10 days away from the start of Wiki Loves Monuments 2017
contest. :)
== Participating? ==
* If your country is participating and you have not signed up
officially yet, please do so. [1] We need this information asap. If
you are in this category and your country is participating for the
first time, please email Lodewijk (cc-ed) and myself immediately.
* If your country is participating for the first time and you have
listed your country as definitely participating country [1] and you
don't have your lists ready, please email Lodewijk immediately. We
can't lose 1 extra day at this point and we need to quickly help you
get on board.
* If you are in the list of participating countries and you are unsure
if you can make it, please indicate this by moving your country to
Likely to participate list [2] and get in touch with us immediately so
we can figure out together how we can help.
* All others: please make sure you've read and are following the steps
needed to organize Wiki Loves Monuments. [3]
== Share ==
We were reminded one more time in Wikimania that many of you like to
share your experiences and new things you are trying with other
organizers. We encourage you to use the following space to continue
sharing with each other what new things you are trying, what has
worked in your context, and what hasn't. :)
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2017/Organi…
== Jury tool signup ==
If you are planning to use Montage as the jury tool for your contest,
please sign up at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Montage#Wiki_Loves_Monument…
== Prizes ==
We are finalizing the prize scheme at the international level and you
should hear from us soon. You can follow up the task where this is
being discussed at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170749
A teaser for this year's prize: We are grateful to receive an
anonymous donation for the winner of Wiki Loves Monuments at the
international level. More on the specifics of the camera and prize to
be shared in the coming days.
== Getting help ==
We are here to help you organize a successful Wiki Loves Monuments
contest. If you need help, please ask for it. :) The best way to do
this is at Help desk [4]. Yes, 1:1 emails are nice but individual
inboxes can overflow and if there is not much visibility to your help
request, you may not receive it. If your request needs to be
communicated privately (sometimes there is a need for it, we
understand:), please email the person in the international team
responsible for it [5] but do cc me in your email, please. :)
There are a few other things I'd like to share but this email is
already getting long. :) If you have questions or comments, they're
welcome. Otherwise, I keep the rest of the updates for next week. :)
Enjoy the ride, you all! :)
/me counts the days to September 1.
Best,
Lily

Hi all. Wiki Loves Monuments UK is looking for some volunteers to help
with reviewing this year’s entries and identifying a long list of images
that are worthy to be submitted to the three judges who will pick the
final winners. You don't need to be a top photographer to volunteer for
this, but you should have a good understanding of what makes an
exceptional photograph and be able to distinguish good from mediocre
images. You'd need to be able to commit to something like four or five
hours work, mostly during October but perhaps during September as well.
If you are able to help, please contact me by email. More details can
be found at the competition website http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.uk
All the best
Michael
Hi all!
sorry if this is an off topic in this list.
I just see the recent video from wikipedia:
https://www.facebook.com/wikipedia/videos/10155462578903346/
And I think it would be great if this video will be avalaible in with
spanish subtitles and some others ...
Can someone of you tell me, where I can ask if some people are
translating this?

If the local jury find them good enough they are free to send them to the
international round (in this case they didn't and I don't think it has
happened anywhere yet).
There was no special award for the category.

Hi!
Are these eligible for international round? Do you have a special award to
the category? We had some 360º uploads in WLE.

hi everyone!
Maybe some of you knows if it's possible to upload 360-degrees pictures
in commons? These photos can participate in wlm?
Thanks!
