Hi everyone,
The monuments database is a database serving the cultural heritage
community and more specific the Wiki Loves Monuments project. The
database contains machine-readable data on different objects of cultural
heritage value from countries participating in Wiki Loves Monuments. The
monument database contains over 1,2 million listings in over 45
countries in over 25 different languages. It also tracks over 1 million
images of cultural heritage objects on Commons. More info on
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Monuments_database
The database moved from Toolserver to Toollabs and is accessible at
http://tools.wmflabs.org/heritage/api/api.php . For the people who
access the database (p_erfgoed_p) on the Toolserver: I plan to drop this
database next weekend. You can access the database in Toollabs at
s51138__heritage_p on the server tools-db.

Hi.
In a grant discussing for funding this year's WLM competition in Pakistan,
a member of the Grant Advisory Committee (GAC) brought up an idea I thought
worth thinking about: offering one or two prizes, alongside the major top
photo prizes, to those submitting good photos as well as creating/expanding
Wikipedia articles about those objects.
The grant discussion is here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants_talk:PEG/WMPK/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_P…
As you can read in the discussion above, the organizers would prefer not to
(which is perfectly fine), but since they mentioned, as one reason, that it
would stand out among other WLMs, I was wondering if that is indeed the
case, i.e. if no other WLM competition offers prizes on this basis, or,
indeed, on other thematic focuses (e.g. "best photo by a newbie"?)
I'm not strongly claiming it should definitely be done, nor that it would
be a good fit everywhere if it were done. I'm just interested in floating
the notion and hearing your thoughts.
Cheers,
Asaf

Hi,
We have finally decided to join in for 2014. Wiki Loves Monuments have been
a success since 2010, we want to continue, even if it will probably be
different than the two last years (at least at the international scale).

Hi everyone,
Just a quick heads up. The monuments database[1] is moving from
Toolserver to Toollabs. I disabled updating of the data on the
Toolserver. Most important tools seem to work on Toollabs now. For the
tools I didn't write and document myself I have a bit more trouble
getting them running on Toollabs.
