Dear all,
The draft version of the questionnaire for this year's participants' survey is ready:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Partici…
There is a description of the changes with regard to last year's questionnaire on the talk page.
Please give feedback until 30 August! - If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them on the talk page or on this mailing list.
@International Team:
Please let us know if it is ok for you if we add your names at the end of the intro text, as was done in previous years!
Kind regards,
Beat Estermann

Hi all,
I've taking a look at the category :Category:WWI related images from Wiki
Loves Monuments 2013 [1] which related the Special Europeana Award of this
year. Now is being filled by basically by volunteers.
My proposal is: regarding the fact that monuments have a ID and most of
them are categorized, is it doable to run a bot a the end on the contest
that does:
"if a photo is both at WLM2013 category and in one (sub)category of WW1,
add it to WWI related images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2013"'
what do you think? Am I saying nonsense or is it doable? This way we could
take a big % of ww1 related images
Best,
Àlex

Dear WLMers:
We are only 30 minutes away from the beginning of Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.
A number of tools are available at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Tools
for following the progress. More tools will likely follow in the next days.
Wiki Loves Monuments will begin at the same time everywhere: Sep 1, 00:00 *
but not at the same instant. It will begin staggered due to the multiple
timezones. This year the contest will be led by Russia. You can view the
at contest times at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Upload…
(I urge the local teams to verify that the start and end times for their
country
contest are right)
* Except for Israel, whose contest will be based on Hebrew calendar instead.
We're almost there, teams!
Hi all,
thanks to Yuvi Panda & Maarten Dammers, the mobile app is available! See
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/find-photograph-upload-monuments-with-you…
for
more info. It is for the Android phones, and very similar to the app of
last year. This year however it is /not/ supported by the Wikimedia
Foundation (they stopped supporting it almost a year ago), it was revived
by community members.
Thanks!
Lodewijk
I just activated the central notice in those countries that at the moment are already able to participate: Russia, China, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand
If you notice any problems, please mail me!
(And give as much as details as possible.)
Settings of the CentralNotice:
* Is only shown if you are in a particular country that is currently participating at the moment (where September already began). The countries participating this year are at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Upload…
* Shows the text in the language you have set, except for those languages we do not have a translation of, then it will be in English. If your language isn't available, be welcome to translate it in your language at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Centra…
* The text is linking to the website of the national contest in the country you are currently visiting the internet. Urls of the websites are at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Centra…
* From now on the banner will be switched on in the hour (or shorter) after the contest started in your country.
Have a good picture contest!

Hi,
as discussed before, we provide an international infrastructure for
measuring some statistics for the national Wiki Loves Monuments websites,
using Piwik. For each country that we know the external website of, we
created a piwik code (if your country already has one from last year, it is
identical), you can find it on
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Progre…
.
Again: please only use this if you're confident you're allowed to. If you
feel it would be illegal, don't. (probably stating the obvious)
To use this service, you have to install the piwik code on your website.
See
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/FAQ#Ca…
for
instructions.
To follow the stats for your country's website, you need an account to log
in to stats.wikilovesmonuments.org . We provide *one* account per country,
and you will only be allowed to see statistics of your own website(s). You
can request it by emailing me and/or Sylvain (cc'd). If you have technical
questions, Sylvain is your go-to-guy.
To be clear: this is visitor stats to your homepage, NOT upload statistics.
Best,
Lodewijk

To enable users to upload photos of monuments we recommend that lists of monuments contain a direct upload link so that users can easy use the upload wizard already pre-filled. There are several options possible, but we recommend to use the system which uses an icon independent if an image already is in the list or not. See the + icon in the list below. In that way we also enable participants to upload images from monuments with already a photo, which can be a better photo, a photo from another angle, better perspective, etc.
Example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_National_Historical_and_Cultural_Sites_…
(The upload campaign stays available for 365 days a year (while images can only participate during September). It is up to local communities if they would like to have the upload link in the lists during the whole year or only during September.)

If you feel there are too many emails on this mailing list right now, and
you want to unsubscribe or enter digest mode - I can totally understand
that. However, I would ask you to please subscribe to wlm-announce in that
case (everyone should). We send major announcements for Wiki loves
Monuments to that mailing list, and there are no discussions.
Please subscribe on
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wlm-announce
For everyone: please lets be careful with the amount of email we send on
this mailing list these days. If something is specific, please discuss it
directly with the right person or local team. Skip the +1's, and send
thankyou's privately (but do send them ;-) Especially to our dear
techies!). Your input and discussion is very much appreciated, but people
are currently being swallowed in Wiki Loves Monuments related email - so
lets be a little bit extra careful.
Thank you!
Lodewijk
