Hello all,
Thanks to Lucas who filled the necessary requirements, Wikidata now appears in the LOD cloud graph: http://lod-cloud.net
Currently, the graph doesn't display all the actual connections of Wikidata. The only connections that show up are the properties that link to other projects or databases, and having a specific statement on them to link to an RDF endpoint.
If you see something missing, you can contribute by adding the statement “formatter URI for RDF resource” on properties where the resource supports RDF (example https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P214#P1921).
You can learn more about the procedure to update the graph and a list of the existing and missing datasets here https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Lucas_Werkmeister_(WMDE)/LOD_Cloud,
Thanks to Lucas and John for making this happening!
Thank you very much everybody. There is something strangely satifying to see this big bubble next to Dbpedia.

Ettore Rizza

Hoi, This is indeed immensely satisfying. In this representation we find the connections between Wikidata and other websites. It helps explain how such a connection benefits both sides of a connection. Is there a place where this is explained in more detail?
What I am missing in all of this is a link between Wikidata and DBpedia. It is well known that DBpedia ingests all Wikidata items and it will help when this is raised to a level where it is also included in this representation. Thanks, GerardM

Hi Léa and Lucas,
Excellent news! https://lod-cloud.net/dataset/wikidata seems to contain the info in a more human readable (and machine readable) way. If we add some URI link, does it automagically appear or does Lucas has to do some manual work? I assume Lucas has to do some manual work. I would suggest you document this somewhere more central so we don't have to bother Lucas all the time for updates. Do you already have a phabricator task for that?

I'd also be curious what to do when a property does not have a node in the LOD cloud, for instance P2948 is among the 77 results for P1921 but I don't see any corresponding URL in http://lod-cloud.net/versions/2018-30-05/lod-data.json

Previously it was manual work, yes, and for properties not in the LOD cloud I added commented-out entries to the page source of https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Lucas_Werkmeister_(WMDE)/LOD_Cloud. I’ll try to resubmit Wikidata now and see how the submission process has evolved.

Dear all,
stop me if my question is naive or stupid. But I see that a dataset like Europeana is both in the Lod Cloud and as a property in Wikidata https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P727. However, the method using the "Formatter URL for RDF resource" property does not work because this property is missing from Europeana ID. How many other cases like this?
But I see in this simplified version of the Lod Cloud https://jqplay.org/s/bgiJvPKryC that each dataset has a namespace. Would not it be more efficient to match Wikidata and Lod Cloud using this namespaces in a series of Sparql queries http://tinyurl.com/y8taazzm?
Cheers,
Ettore

Hi Ettore,
speaking as the person who’s entered the current data into the LOD Cloud… no, I’m afraid it’s not as easy. Some of our namespaces (i. e. RDF formatter URLs) are wrong, some of the namespaces in the LOD Cloud are wrong, some datasets just don’t have a clean namespace (or they have several of them), some of our properties map to more than one LOD Cloud dataset, some LOD Cloud datasets map to more than one of our properties, and in general this is all just a terrible mess.
We might be able to start cleaning up this mess if we create a property “LOD Cloud identifier” or something like that, but I think if you try to match datasets between the two databases automatically you’re just asking for trouble.
Cheers, Lucas

Hello all,
Thanks to Lucas who filled the necessary requirements, Wikidata now appears in the LOD cloud graph: http://lod-cloud.net
You can learn more about the procedure to update the graph and a list of the existing and missing datasets here https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Lucas_Werkmeister_%28WMDE%29/LOD_Cloud,
Thanks to Lucas and John for making this happening!

I guess Wikidata disappeared from the files yesterday, a few minutes before 14:00 GMT, when a new version of the cloud was generated. It's probably a mistake/bug in that generation process.

Looks like after the last update Wikidata dropped out again? https://lod-cloud.net/versions/2018-30-05/lod-data.json contains Wikidata, but in https://lod-cloud.net/lod-data.json it seems to be currently missing, it does list Wikidata as a target in some other sets.

The domain mcc.ae is down for email (see https://mxtoolbox.com/domain/mcc.ae/ ) and http://www.mcc.ae/ shows a for sale sign. Any idea how to reach the maintainer?

John was never in the loop because, according to his Twitter account, his domain name is mccr.ae, not mcc.ae. :-/
