Hi,
I have a couple of questions regarding the Wiki Page ID. Does it always
stay unique for the page, where the page itself is just a placeholder for
any kind of information that might change over time?
Consider the following cases:
1. The first time someone creates page "Moon" it is assigned ID=1. If at
some point the page is renamed to "The_Moon", the ID=1 remains intact. Is
this correct?
2. What if we have page "Moon" with ID=1. Someone creates a second-page
"The_Moon" with ID=2. Is it possible that page "Moon" is transformed into a
redirect? Then, "Moon" would be redirecting to page "The_Moon"?
3. Is it possible for page "Moon" to become a category "Category:Moon" with
the same ID=1?
Thanks,
Gintas
Hi!
In RDF exports of Wikidata[1] and in Wikidata Query Service, sitelinks
were always encoded by url-encoding the sitelink text - i.e. link to
"Category:Stuffed animals" were encoded as
/wiki/Category%3AStuffed%20animals.
While this encoding produces a working link, after some time we've
arrived to a conclusion that such encoding is very inconvenient, due to
mismatch with how titles are encoded in Mediawiki, and this mismatch
makes it harder to look up the links. See more in
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T131960
We have decided to change the encoding, so that the encoding of the
sitelink above would be /wiki/Category:Stuffed_animals. The encoding now
should match how titles are encoded in Mediawiki codebase (non-ASCII
characters that Mediawiki encodes will still be encoded as before).
Implementation of this change will require database reload, and during
that time there might be inconsistent results returned for some time
(some entities may have new sitelink encoding and some the old one). I
apologize in advance for any inconvenience caused by that. I will
announce additionally when the switch is process has started and when it
is complete.
Thanks,

Hello all,
Here are some new information about the WikidataCon event
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikidataCon_2017>, that will take
place in Berlin on October 28th-29th.
We just nominated the members of the two committees that will have an
important role in the organization of the event. Thank you very much to all
the applicants!
- Program committee: andrawaag
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Andrawaag>, Spinster
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Spinster>, Masssly
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Masssly>
- Scholarship committee: Micru <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Micru>,
Venuslui <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Venuslui>
For all the other topics, you can freely join *the volunteer groups
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikidataCon_2017/Volunteer>*,
discuss on the talk page, suggest ideas.
I'm also glad to give you an overview of the *next steps for the
WikidataCon*:
- Scholarship application process: June 8th-July 31st
- Call for submissions for the program: June 12th-July 31st
- Registration opening: June 19th (two other ticket releases are planned
in August and September)
- Selection of the scholarships recipients: August
- Review of the submissions for the program: August
- Announce of the program: September 1st
This dates can still evolve, I'll keep you informed. For more information,
check Wikidata:WikidataCon_2017
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikidataCon_2017>.
Last but not least: in order to be able to provide scholarships, and help
people who can't afford the travel and accommodation to participate, we
requested a grant from the WMF. This grant will be reviewed soon, and you
can help by *endorsing the project*. For this, you can add a message at the
bottom of the grant submission
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/WMDE/WikidataCon>. This
would be very useful for the project!
Cheers,

Hi everyone,
I am trying to include data from a Wikibase item in a page with
*{{#property:P2}}*. For that I need to link the page with the item, as
in Wikidata, add a sitelink. However, I don't know how to link a page
with my local repository, because in the sitelinks section I only see
the options to add a sitelink of a Wikimedia's wiki. You can check the
attached image to see what I see.
I didn't find useful documentation to solve it. Could anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Regards, Iván

Hey folks,
we plan to drop the wb_entity_per_page table sometime soon[0], because
it is just not required (as we will likely always have a programmatic
mapping from entity id to page title) and it does not supported non
-numeric entity ids as it is now. Due to this removing it is a blocker
for the commons metadata.
Is anybody using that for their tools (on tool labs)? If so, please
tell us so that we can give you instructions and a longer grace period
to update your scripts.
Cheers,
Marius

Perhaps this would interest some Wikidatans and software developers.

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Wikimedia genealogy and historical research software
- a proposal for HRE

There has been quite bit of discussion over the years about how the
Wikimedia movement could engage with those who have research interests in
family history or genealogy, and a centralised discussion page [1] has been
set up on Meta.
I am posting to ask whether there would be Wikimedian developers who would
be interested in joining an open source project to create a free platform
independent application called History Research Environment [2] (‘HRE’) for
the serious genealogist or historical researcher. Considerable effort has
been put into high-level planning over several years, and we are now ready
to start writing code.
While the proposed software is not currently an official Wikimedia project,
if there is enough interest we are open to it becoming integrated or
affiliated in some way. The plan is, in any event, that the software should
be interoperable with Wikidata to allow (subject to the agreement of the
Wikidata community) the exchange of a variety of structured data including
verified and fully sourced family trees.
I'd be happy to answer queries.
