Hello Wikimedia & GLAM collaborators,
(Apologies for cross-posting!)
The Community Resources team is inviting you to an exciting opportunity to
be a committee member as part of the grants programs' participatory
grantmaking practice.
Participatory grantmaking ensures that resourcing community efforts in the
movement is diverse, equal and inclusive. This practice aligns with
movement strategy recommendation 4. Ensure Equity in Decision-making:
Establishing shared responsibility and accountability for decision-making
and distribution of resources.
Serving committee members will have the opportunity to inform and advise
funding decisions and proactively share recommendations and mentorship to
support grantees worldwide in their development, growth, and sustainability
strategies; that contribute to a world in which every single human being
can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.
You will also strengthen your capacity in participatory decision-making
processes while learning about our community's incredible work and the
different contexts that influence their work.
Here is statement by current committee member, Thepwnco, on their
experience;
My experiences with Wikimedia Foundation grant programs have been very
rewarding and I feel so fortunate to have served as a volunteer committee
member since 2014. Grant programs contribute to equity and sustainability
in our movement through funding unmet and under-resourced needs. Under our
participatory approach to grantmaking, volunteers play a key role in
decision-making. Volunteers also help support and strengthen community-led
initiatives by reviewing grant proposals for impact and providing feedback
and other support to prospective grantees. But being a volunteer committee
member is much more than just a way to share your knowledge and insights,
it’s also an incredible opportunity to learn and be inspired by the breadth
of amazing and innovative work taking place across the movement and in
diverse communities and regions.
Here are the committees that are currently soliciting new members:

We have our next LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group Call on Tuesday, January 26th at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 17:00 UTC / 6pm CET. Georgina Burnett (Partner Relationship Manager, Wikimedia Deutschland) and Barbara Fischer (German National Library) will kindly be walking us through Wikibase<https://wikiba.se/>, the Integrated Authority File (GND) pilot<https://wiki.dnb.de/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=147754828> at the German National Library, and the WikiLibrary Manifesto<https://www.wikimedia.de/the-wikilibrary-manifesto/>. As usual, there will be time for discussion and Q&A. This presentation will be useful for participants who are curious to hear more about Wikibase, the partnerships surrounding it, and what a Wikibase project can look like in practice.
The call details are below. Everyone is welcome to attend the call. To receive notifications about upcoming calls and meeting notes you can subscribe to the ld4-wikidata google group<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ld4-wikidata>. If you aren't able to attend, the meetings are recorded and meeting notes available on Google Drive.
The LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_LD4_Wikidata_Affinity_Gr…> is associated with the Linked Data for Libraries LD4 Community and investigates how libraries can contribute to and better integrate library metadata with Wikidata to improve access to library resources on the web. The Affinity Group calls provide an informal space to share information and learn more about Wikidata.

Code4Lib 2021 is soliciting proposals for prepared talks!
Code4Lib 2021 is a loosely-structured conference that provides people
working at the intersection of libraries/archives/museums/cultural heritage
and technology with a chance to share ideas, be inspired, and forge
collaborations. For more information about the Code4Lib community, please
visit the Code4Lib website <https://code4lib.org/about/>.
The conference will be held virtually, from Monday, March 22, 2021 to
Friday, March 26, 2021. Registration for the online conference is projected
to be $49. More information about Code4lib 2021 is available on this
year’s conference website <https://2021.code4lib.org/>.
We encourage all members of the library, archives, museums, cultural
heritage organizations, and technology community to submit proposals for
prepared talks. Prepared talks should focus on one or more of the following
areas:
-
Projects you've worked on which incorporate innovative implementation of
existing technologies and/or development of new software
-
Tools and technologies – How to get the most out of existing tools,
standards, and protocols (and ideas on how to make them better)
-
Technical issues – Big issues in library technology that are worthy of
community attention or development
-
Relevant non-technical issues – Concerns of interest to the Code4Lib
community which are not strictly technical in nature, e.g. collaboration,
diversity, organizational challenges, etc.
We will be soliciting 10, 15, and 20 minute talks. You'll be asked to
indicate which talk lengths you would be willing to accommodate for your
proposal. A separate call for poster proposals will be offered at a later
date. There will also be sign-up opportunities to present 5-minute
lightning talks at the event.
Submit a presentation proposal for Code4Lib 2021
<https://forms.gle/1wnx8mQP6xpawJhP9>
As in past years, the Code4Lib community will vote on proposals that they
would like to see included in the program. In order to provide increased
opportunities for a diversity of speakers and topics, all presentations
will be listed by title and description only during the voting period.
Speaker names will not be included until the program is posted.
The top 10 proposals are guaranteed a slot of their preferred length at the
conference. The Program Committee will curate the remainder of the program
in an effort to ensure diversity in program content and presenters.
Community votes will weigh heavily in these decisions.
Presenters whose proposals are selected for inclusion in the program will
have conference registration slots held for them. The standard conference
registration fee will apply.
Proposals can be submitted through Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11:59pm
Pacific time. Voting will start Monday, January 4, 2021 and continue
through Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11:59pm Pacific time. The committee
plans to announce selected proposals by Monday, February 8, 2021.
Thank you,
The Code4Lib 2021 Program Committee
