Hello everyone!
As some of you may know, several developers are currently working on a
project (funded by a Wikimedia grant) to add Structured Data on Wikimedia
Commons functionalities to OpenRefine. See
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OpenRefine for more info :-)
We are making good progress on this project. Many people in the Wikimedia
community actively use OpenRefine and are interested in these new features.
Because of this interest, the OpenRefine team starts hosting online,
monthly office hours for OpenRefine users from the Wikimedia community. You
can meet and ask questions to other OpenRefine / Wikimedia users here, and
talk to members of the development team. These office hours are informal,
have no set agenda, are held via Zoom but are not recorded. Registration is
not needed.
For now, we have scheduled office hours until the end of June 2022. Time of
the day alternates to accommodate participants from diverse time zones. If
these office hours prove to be popular, we will plan more of these later!
- Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 9AM UTC
- Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 4PM UTC
- Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 8AM UTC
- Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 4PM UTC
See
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OpenRefine#Join_OpenRefine_meetu…
where
we will post the Zoom links. Feel free to drop by :-)
Hope to see many of you there!

Are you a small institution* with digitized collections that you want to share online? Do you want to help smaller organizations share their digitized collections? Join the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) Outreach Group<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fiiif.io%2…> for two ‘drop-in’ conversations where we will develop detailed use cases to help us move our work with small institutions forward as a community.
Once we’ve firmed up use cases, we plan to continue the conversation by discussing free or low-cost hosting options, exhibition and display tools, and more.
* By “small institution”, what we are generally talking about is institutions with few or no staff dedicated to managing digital collections and digital object infrastructure. This may include museums, historical societies, and archives, among others.
Outreach Community group meeting dates:
* March 29, 8am PST/11amEST/16:00BST/17:00CEST
* April 26, 8am PST/11amEST/16:00BST/17:00CEST

Hello everyone,
We have our next LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group Call on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 17:00 UTC / 6pm CET (Time zone converter<https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1645549233>). We will be having our first 2022 crossover with the LD4 Discovery Affinity Group! Huda Khan (Cornell University) and Astrid Usong (Stanford University) will be talking about the linked data integration work at Cornell University to bring author and subject knowledge panels into Cornell's library catalog (described here<https://wiki.lyrasis.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=230818255>), which emerged from explorations in the Linked Data for Production: Closing the Loop (LD4P3) grant. The knowledge panels use data from Wikidata, DBPedia, and the Library of Congress (LOC) linked data service. This overview of the work will focus on the data sources and on the conversations with stakeholders which led to the integration of these features into production.
The call details are below. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you aren't able to attend, the meetings are recorded and meeting notes are available on Google Drive<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JwTulCABs0TkGQDVSnYbIYEb7bC-j4-n>. To receive notifications about upcoming calls and meeting notes you can subscribe to the ld4-wikidata Google Group<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ld4-wikidata>.
The LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group is associated with the LD4 Community and investigates how libraries can contribute to and better integrate library metadata with Wikidata to improve access to library resources on the web. The Affinity Group calls provide an informal space to share information and learn more about Wikidata.
