Hi everybody
I noticed a sudden expansion of arz.wikipedia (Egyptian Arabic dialect version). Can one of our Arabic speakers help (it would save time for me as my Arabic is bati' ktir -too slow)?
Arz.wiki used to hover under 20,000 articles for years, was at 24,000 until November 2019 and then started adding, reaching 158,107 today 5 March 2020 (adding 10,000 articles in the 5 days of March!). Looks like some programme doing articles. I wonder: is there anything readable coming out of it? Is it actually masri or do they just copy regular existing material from ar.wikipedia? Appreciate our Arabic speakers' wisdom! Cheers, Ingo - Kipala from sw.wiki

NB: looking at it: they might even work manually, not purely by bot?

Hi Ingo, That's very interesting ! It looks that more than 130k new articles have been created by the same user: HitomiAkane and apparently it's not a bot. I'm wondering what is the trigger behind this ?
ThanksYamen

And to Ingo's other questions? What is the language like? Is it actually the Egyptian dialect?

Hi Asaf, Some of them are in Egyptian dialect (1) but many stubs are in arabic (2) The user is using Wikidata to populate the articles (bios, cities ...).
According to a sysop friend from ar.wp the user was inspired and copied what has been done in the last few years in ar.wp. If the user is going to continue populating articles using this technique we can expect that the number of articles can increase more and more (it's even possible to exceed 1m soon).
PS: the user started editing July 2019 and became admin on arz.wp 4 months ago.
ThanksYamen
