We are delighted to witness another 360+ days in our calendar. No doubt, it
has been an eventful year. As a team, our years is calibrated not by twelve
months in a year but by the number of works done within our community as a
reflection of our projections for the year. We are glad to thank you all
for making it happen.
Sincerely, we can’t gloss over the year 2017 without a mention of the
numerous supports from our volunteers across the length and breadth of
Nigeria. How I wish we can rewind the clock, perhaps we could have seen how
colorful the year was to our community.
We started the year with less than ten (10) members but today; we are well
above thirty (30) committed members,
While basking in the joy of the upsurge in the number of our member, we
cannot forget many of our Non-Wiki based organizations, which have
recognized with our group through various form of partnerships like:
· Goge Africa- Content Partner
· WFM 91.7 – Awareness for Nigerian Women
· University of Ibadan,- Wikimedia Fan Club
· Nigeria Institute of Journalism, Ogba, Lagos, Nigeria- Wikimedia
Fan Club.

Dear All
Wiki Loves Africa saw 17,811 entries to the competition this year. This is an enormous amount of entries and to do them justice, we need the help of all the teams.
This year, we are asking the local teams to please set up their own internal judging panels to create a shortlist - with the idea to reduce the number of quality images to 10% for each country. This 10% will be submitted to the final 2 rounds of the continental judging. Of course you can, as a team, then finalize this short list into a national prize …!
Due to a range of issues, but mostly my fault - we are delayed on setting up the Montage for team judging. I am now on the case - and apologise for the delay. Once the Montage team and I have the judging set up, I will be in touch. In the meanwhile, please assemble your judges so that you are ready to get started.
Important … Please send me the email address and username of each of the team members for each country that wishes to be in charge of the judging process.
I am expecting to be in touch before the season begins, but I wish you all a wonderful festive season and a magnificent end to this year!
warmest
Isla
Dear all
I wanted to inform you all that Wikimedia Foundation has agreed to fund
a project grant meant to improve WikiFundi, which is awesome news.
WikiFundi on meta : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiFundi/en
The full grant request is here :
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/WikiInAfrica/WikiFundi
I have an urgent issue that those of you already with a WikiFundi can
help me with.
When in Potsdam, I met with a developper who was willing to have a look
at one of the annoying bug (where the use of the software is made more
complicated on Macintosh because the plateform opens in a "captured"
window with limited functionnalities). However, this person wants to SEE
the problem with his own eyes with screenshots. I only work on Macintosh
so can provide him as many screenshots on that plateform; But I can NOT
put a hand on computers with windows or android to show him the
difference. Therefore, I am looking for one of the current holders of
WikiFundi to simply switch on the raspberry and take some screenshots
for me ! Can someone help ?
Flo

WikiIndaba Conference 2018 - Scholarship
Scholarship Application Form for WikiIndaba Conference 2018 in Tunis

ThanksYamenCo-Founder WM Tn User Group.
Hi everybody
I was asked from the Tanzanian group about upcoming WikiIndaba. When I
open the site
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiIndaba_conference_2018, I find it
still with many empty spaces and some information in between.
Altogether I find the site not easy to navigate. To find the sub page
where to register is a challenge.
It is hidden at the end under "documentation" , I do not get it via
"Registration & Participants" where I looked for it. Maybe that can be
made easier?
3 more remarks:
a) there is a deadline for scholarships until Mid-January but "Apply for
a scholarship" leads nowhere
b) What to do with the many questions at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiIndaba_conference_2018/Questions_for_ap…
? Copy the text into an email and answer there? It is better to put some
advice there.
c) we are asked to register interest for participation under the
headline "Questions and Needs"
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiIndaba_conference_2018/Questions_%26_Ne…".
That is not so clear among the meany headings on the page that this is
the one to start with
I wish for the team good energy in their preparations!
!! حظ سعيد
Cheers

Hi all,
I'm an Outreachy <https://www.outreachy.org/alums/> intern and as a part of
the internship, I'm working on a project - WikiCV
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiCV>.
Through this project we (my mentors - Gergő Tisza and Stephen LaPorte and
I) want to create a contribution summarizing tool which (unlike the
existing ones that focus on statistics and are hard to interpret for
someone not familiar with Wikipedia editing) highlights contributions in an
easy-to-understand manner.
I'm writing this to gather inputs from prospective users of this tool, that
is all the Wikipedia editors!
Basically I want to understand what all things would you like to see in a
tool like this? Or what all would you write in your Wikipedia CV?
You can give in your inputs through mail (I'd be more than happy to get one
:)) or fill out this form <https://goo.gl/forms/slmOreey5iVPWzFx1>. My work
is largely dependent on your inputs, so please pour in your comments/views.
Your help will be quite appreciated!
Eagerly waiting for your inputs :)
Thanks,
Megha Sharma
