Hello Friends!
The Inuka team [1] and the Wikistories pilot project team [2] are delighted
to announce that we have launched the first version of the Wikistories
tool, which is now available on the Bahasa Indonesian Wikipedia, as a beta
feature.
Wikistories is a new tool used to create visual format content that
combines images and short text from Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia.
Presently, the Wikimedia Indonesia community is running a Wikistories pilot
testing campaign that will help the Wikistories team evaluate the outcome
of this version, improve the tool and get ready to engage with other Wiki
communities that would like to incorporate this content format in their
projects.
We are so excited about the possibilities of this tool and would like you
to learn more about it in this blog post [3] and the Wikistories FAQ page
[4] (you can also help with the translation of the page to your language).
Please feel free to provide feedback, comment, and ask questions about the
tool on the Wikistories talk page [5].
Thank you!

Dear Wikimedians,
The WikiIndaba Steering Committee
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Indaba_Steering_Committee> (WISCom)
has two volunteer positions open for Wikimedians in Africa and the diaspora
to apply.
If you are passionate about African community activation and development,
providing support to events/ conference planning and administration, you
can apply here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiIndaba_Steering_Committee_(WISCom)_Volu…>.
WISCom was formed in 2018 to oversee the process of the WikiIndaba
conference and support African Wikimedians who associate with
WikiIndaba. This came after a resolution was taken
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/WM_TN/Wikiindaba2018/Repo…>
to lift the burden of constant burnout from WikiIndaba conference
organisers. In this regard, WISCom is composed of representatives from
previous Wiki-Indaba organisers, current WikiIndaba Conference Local
Organising Committee (LOC), and three volunteers from the wider community.
The due date for applications is 5 August 2022.
Apply today!
Kind regards,
Bobby Shabangu
WISCom

Hello Fellow Wikimedians,
We have successfully drawn the curtains on this year's Africa Wiki Challenge
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Africa_Wiki_Challenge_2022> and we need
your help in assessing the contest.
Did you participate as an editor, organizer or contributor? We would
appreciate your views on our performances right from the preparatory stages
to the final stages of the contest.
What were some of the challenges you faced as an organizer or a
participant?
Kindly complete the AWC Feedback Form
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OVIEVw25fJLqrRjtA-yE77ivctOaq34hhJOA-h8V1Z…>
to help us improve on our subsequent contests.
Also, as part of the feedback form, we have also included some proposed
themes for you to vote on for the organizing of the third version of the
contest next year. We want to make you a part of the AWC franchise by
giving you the opportunity to vote on the next theme for the contest.
*JURY CALL UP*

Dear all,
Community members in the 2022 Board of Trustees election are invited to
propose statements here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2022/Communi…
which will be used in the Election Compass>.
An Election Compass is a tool to help voters select the candidates that
best align with their beliefs and views. The community members will propose
statements for the candidates to answer using a Lickert scale
(agree/neutral/disagree). The candidates’ answers to the statements will be
loaded into the Election Compass tool. Voters will use the tool by entering
in their answer to the statements (agree/disagree/neutral). The results
will show the candidates that best align with the voter’s beliefs and
views.
Here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2022/Communi…>
is the timeline for the Election Compass.
The Elections Committee will select the top 15 statements at the beginning
of August. The Elections Committee will oversee the process, supported by
the Movement Strategy and Governance team. MSG will check that the
questions are clear, there are no duplicates, no typos, and so on.
Best,

Dear African-Wikimedians Network,
The Wikimedians of Twi Language User Group seeks to embark on a research
project to advance the initiative 25 of the Movement Strategy
Recommendations on Regional and Thematic Hubs by surfacing the needs and
priorities of Wikimedians across the West Africa region. The project will
be exploring ways that a hub structure might address any existing gaps and
contribute to ongoing conversations highlighting the priorities of the West
Africa Region.
We are excited to inform you that the 1st phase of the project has begun
and surveys will be sent soon. The survey is currently in 2 languages
(English and French) and your response will help us better align and
contribute to discussions for initiative 25.
We are looking forward to having all interested Wikimedians in the region
to participate.
Thanks,
Best Regards.
