Let's hear some "me too" and/or "no way" posts on this one!
me too. Although I think having a different background color or something when you are not logged in would be even better... I hate checking some large piece of work in only to find out that it then doesn't even show up on my contributions list since I wasn't logged in at the time...
Another approach would be to ask one if they wished to log in at the time of submitting work...

I never use Wikipedia without logging in first.
Even if I want just to read something, I log in. One of the reasons is aesthetical: The default skin doesn't seem beautiful to me (sorry), so I log in in order to see Wikipedia with my favourite skin.
I have even placed a "login" link on my userpage.

If you enable the checkbox when logging in you will be logged in automatically thereafter.

Thank you for the recommendation. I know this feature and I have thought many times about enabling it, since it is a bit difficult and slow to log in so many times each day. However, for now, I don't want to enable the automatic login for security reasons (this will mean anybody who has physical access to one of my computers will be able to login in Wikipedia with my username). Also, I have very strict cookie policies (each time a cookie wants to be installed, I have to answer with a yes or a no, even if the cookie is session-only). But I may enable it in the future...
Really, why not place a login textbox on each page on the top, together with the search?

I use Mozilla and Firebird and the auto-login does not work. I must login several times a day. When not active for a while i am log out. Because my username and password are already automatically insert by the browser this goes fast and easy.

Then your setup is broken. I use Mozilla also and I am always logged in.

I used to have exactly the same problem. I agree with Yann, it was probably that my setup was broken. But, I had no idea how to make it be not broken, so I lived with it for a long time.
I no longer have this problem.

May be check the cookie settings and/or remove the actual cookie and log again.
I no longer have this problem.
