Now when I succeded to install MediaWiki 1.3.8, with it´s own monobook skin, IE6 is displaying the personal toolbar at the upper left hand side.
I tried to edit the file main.css, especially the lines
/* ** the personal toolbar */
#p-personal { width:100%; white-space:nowrap; padding:0 0 0 0; margin:0; position:absolute; left:0px; top:0px; z-index: 0; border: none; background: none; overflow: visible; line-height: 1.2em; }
#p-personal h5 { display:none; } #p-personal .portlet, #p-personal .pBody { padding:0; margin:0; border: none; z-index:0; overflow: visible; background: none; } /* this is the ul contained in the portlet */ #p-personal ul { border: none; line-height: 1.4em; color: #2f6fab; padding: 0em 2em 0 3em; margin: 0; text-align: right; text-transform: lowercase; list-style: none; z-index:0; background: none; } #p-personal li { z-index:0; border:none; padding:0; display: inline; color: #2f6fab; margin-left: 1em; line-height: 1.2em; background: none; } #p-personal li a { text-decoration: none; color: #005896; padding-bottom: 0.2em; background: none; } #p-personal li a:hover { background-color: White; padding-bottom: 0.2em; text-decoration: none; }
without any success.
I´m not a specialist on CSS, so if you can help...

Unless you have it set to a language using right-to-left scripts (Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi, a couple others) this is normal.
Take a look at the right-to-left mode to see what changes are made in the styles.

I am using german language (de) with unicode support. But I don´t understand why the left alignement should be normal. At wikipedia´s site (p.e. http://de.wikipedia.org), at MediaWiki´s site (http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net) and most of the sites with user styles you will find the upper right alignment of the personal toolbar (user, login, watchlist and so on..) as default.
I tried to use Bluebox (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Gallery_of_user_styles#Bluebox), i.e. bluebox.css as main.css of MySkin. It was working bad with the settings site, but that skin correctly right-aligned the personal toolbar. So the strange behaviour of my MediaWiki installation should come from one file inside the monobook´s folder.
I didn´t find yet any answer, so I´m posting again.
