See this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dijon&curid=99187&diff=588...
It looks to me like the only thing that has changed here is a couple of new lines have been removed, and the words "Dijon is the capital of bourgogne and " replace "The city". However, the entire paragraph is highlighted in red, making it hard to see what's really changed.
Maybe a case to bear in mind if anyone's playing with the diffing algorithm?

I guess this is still the same issue that has been mentioned when the new algorithm was announced. See the thread at http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2006-February/034109.html

It wasn't really a new algorithm, just a new implementation of an old algorithm. The problem described has been around since 2001, it persists in both implementations.
It's a fair complaint though: the new implementation is probably fast enough to do a word-level diff on the entire text, without doing a line-level intermediate stage.

The diff is paragraph-based, then shows word-based diffs within that.
Paragraph 1: lots of text has been added Paragraph 2: has been removed

Ok thanks, that explains it.
