for example, I have the raw html variable enabled... and <html></html> seem to work fine
I have tried.. <html><?php echo "hello"; ?></html> but does not seem to do the trick...

Why does everyone seem to think that's a good idea? There's an extension for this, believe it or not, and a lot of users too. They always say "it's alright, I'm just using it as a personal organiser on localhost, nobody else can access it", but personally, I've found MediaWiki to be slow and unreliable in that role, compared to the alternatives.

1. This should be on the mediawiki-l mailing list 2. Investigate the WebRequest class and its role in MediaWiki
