Something that conveys the idea without requiring you to know English, like having an italic letter conveys the idea of italic text, bold letter the idea of bold text etc
Something like a tilde surrounded by double square brackets would probably be appropriate:
[[~]]
You could stretch the tilde, or something to make it clear it's a placeholder signifying that there should be at least one entire word in there.
