Dear all,
As of a member of Chinese Wikipedia community, we have submitted a bug
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29114 on requestion for adding
LQT to Chinese Wikipedia. However, it seems that it is on hold. Due to a large
amount of comment on Chinese Wikipedia Village Pump, we need it as soon as
possible. When will it be enable? Or, need to wait for central action?
I also asked to enable LiquidThreads on the Hebrew Wikinews [1] and it
was closed as RESOLVED LATER, with the explanation "LQT isn't going to
be deployed anywhere new atm".
Let me clarify what's going on here.
In February, I made the decision, along with Alolita, to implement a
new backend for LiquidThreads. This decision was made because the
original backend had a number of intractable problems that were
causing bugs across Wikimedia projects. You can see the document I
wrote about the backend updates for further information [1].
At that time, the issue of existing and further LiquidThreads
deployments was raised. The decision that I made, in consultation with
the remainder of the technical staff was that, while I would attempt
to resolve serious bugs with LiquidThreads, we would not be deploying
LiquidThreads to any further wikis before the backend updates were
complete. This decision was made so that the time I spend working on
LiquidThreads is focussed on moving the redesign forward.
As has been stated in this thread, there's little point testing code
that's in the process of being rewritten.
Currently, the schedule calls for staged deployments of the rewrite
between early July and Wikimania [2]. There's been some slippage on
the schedule, but there's also a substantial amount of slack in June,
and I think Wikimania would be a reasonable timeframe to expect a test
deployment on a number of small projects, of which some will
necessarily be in right to left languages.
I hope this clarifies things for you.
