My first thought when I saw the code was "OMG, not another syntax".
Would it be possible to implement this in a fashion similar to
GRAMMAR(ie, {{exp:add|2|5}}), using syntax already parsed and handled?
(BTW, I've filed and RFE for this, bug 4294
<http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4294>. Allows extensions
to handle such prefixes. The problem is that it is called on every brace
expansion, which I'm not sure the hook system was designed for. But last
time I introduced a new style of hooks, I got shot down, so I'll use them.)
