I've just had a blinding flash of the obvious, for a potential solution that could help, at least, people with current day desktop browsers (that's what, 95% of the audience? :-)
Could we mouseover the edit links to change the background color of the appropriate div from default to, perhaps, pink, to illustrate which section you're about to edit?
