Yeah... would it be possible to have a client-side script to determine
the proper error message based on the requested subdomain?

Good job
all. Maybe the Squid messages can be translated too ?
The french 404 show an english message:
http://fr.wikipedia.org/this_is_404 Squid's error messages have already been
translated to a lot of languages,
including French; see
http://cvs.devel.squid-cache.org/viewcvs.py/squid/squid3/errors/ . But it
seems that Squid can't send language which is appropriate to
Accept-Language,
but that one language must be set as default? If that is the case, maybe
French servers could have French set...
Forgive me for butting in, but surely Accept-Language is irrelevant.
The message for
FR.wikipedia.org should be "en FRancais".
The message for
CY.wikipedia.org should be in Welsh (sorry, don't know the
Welsh for that :-).
Assuming there is at least one person for each ??.wikipedia.org who can type
in the appropriate language, it must be possible to translate a minimal set
of messages properly?
