Hi!
As far as I know all Wikimedia Wikis use MySQL 4.0.40,
since 2003.
4.0.40 is relatively new version ;-) It is really newer than 2003! :)
That is rather old, it is not planned upgrading to a
newer version? I
know it would not be easy, but the servers cannot run this version
forever.
It would be relatively easy, enwiki was running of a 5.0 slave for
quite a while (until one of disks in raid0 broke ;-) - so we know we
can support the site on 5.0 branch ( the one at lp:~wikimedia/sakila-
server/mysql-5.0 - not the regular release one).
Anyway, I'll probably skip 5.0, and engineer 5.1 - though need to
forward-port some of google's features for that, as they don't have
publicly available 5.1 patch yet.
There is not much urge for upgrades, and I'd better wait for some of
remaining scalability issues to be resolved.
If anyone wants to point at our builds and say 'ha-ha they're running
very old software', I can assure, that we're running more modern
database than they do, 'ha-ha'.
