Hello,
on German Wikipedia we've got the idea to have a Wikipedia Zeitgeist.
Like Google Zeitgeist [1] it would show the most popular articles -
not the most viewed, but the most edited of a week.
This feature would reveal, which are the current "hot" topics among
the authors and where there might be edit wars.
The easiest way to realize this would be a log of the IRC-channel
#derc.wikipedia.
No, the easiest way to do this would be a simple SQL query. Something on
the lines of,
SELECT c.cur_namespace, c.cur_title, COUNT(o.old_id) as edits
FROM cur c, old o
WHERE c.cur_stamp > DATEADD(DAY, -7, GETDATE())
AND o.old_stamp > DATEADD(DAY, -7, GETDATE())
AND c.cur_namespace = o.old_namespace
AND c.cur_title = o.old_title
GROUP BY o.old_id
ORDER BY edits DESC
LIMIT 10
should retrieve the 10 most edited articles in the last week. Notice
that the "edits" count will be one off.
Disclaimer: I do not have a database to test this query on.
