Only one problem. Database name, username, and password are correct. I've verified with under the command line and I can connect from that fine. It just won't do it under the install script.
Are you using MySQL 4.1 or later? Check the RELEASE-NOTES section about that.
I searched the mediawiki site but found no mention. It appears that the mailing list is not searchable. (Wish it was)
