Extension test failures on PHP 7.1

But before we can do that, we'll need 7.1 to be passing first. Avatars coming to gerrit

Hi, with https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/operations/puppet/+/464907/ being merged. We are a step closer to enabling avatars. The only changes left to do is https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/operations/puppet/+/456437/ and also installing the plugin. You can begin uploading your avatars to https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/admin/projects/All-Avatars Note that we will only accept png images. Please do not upload any other format. Note: Image formats are case sensitive so the image must match the username field at https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/settings/ So for example me (paladox) will be paladox.png. We also have a license file for you to specify the license of your image at https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/plugins/gitiles/All-Avatars/+/refs/heads/mas… If none is specified then it defaults to GPL 2.0+. We are using "Trusted-Contributors" for this. So to be able to upload and merge your own change you will need to be in this group. If you would like to be added to this group please reply to this email saying you would like to be added to it. Note all members in "mediawiki" will already be able to merge or add users to these groups, same for admins and ldap/ops (seeing as they are also admins). If users can't edit an article, don't encourage them to edit its Wikidata item

Hi, I'm sending this email to request your help with... https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T207648 We don't want non-confirmed users to see links from semiprotected Wikipedia articles to their corresponding Wikidata items. This is a well-known source of vandalism (and bad press) that is seriously affecting Wikidata and some Wikipedias. As Lydia describes on T205783, "When contentious topics show up in the news vandalism on the Wikipedia articles related to it usually shows up pretty quickly. The article then might be protected for some time in order to prevent more vandalism. A pattern we are seeing now is that people then move over to Wikidata and continue their vandalism there. (This might then in turn lead to vandalism showing up in the article anyway if it uses the data.) This especially happens when an infobox has "edit on Wikidata" links or something similar. We need to find a way to make this attack vector less of a problem." We don't want to hide these links from everyone, just from non-confirmed users. We could write CSS rules for certain user groups, but this can bring undesired side effects like giving all users the possiblity of hiding arbitrary content (e.g., vandalism) from other users who should be able to see it. We also have `mw.title.protectionLevels["edit"]` in Lua, but this option is documented as "expensive" and I can't guess what its impact could be if applied on a large scale. Any action or suggestion on how to achieve this is more than welcome. Thanks in advance! -- David Abián

In addition to supporting the Ohio Wikimedians User Group <https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikimedia-l/2018-October/091277.html>, this year he was an organizer for both Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in the United States <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_the…> (which had over 10,000 entries and almost 2,000 participants), and WikiConference North America 2018 <https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2018/Main_Page> which took place at the Ohio State University Libraries and the Columbus Metropolitan Library. WM Technical Conference 2018 wrap-up

With lots of chatter, we finished up the week with another round of notes and documentation sprint to allow folks to add their comments, notes, uploads to Commons and Phabricator. Django tests are failing from time to time

Hi all, I have absolutely no idea why T207310 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T207310> happens. I have removed some tests (see 469888 <https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/wikimedia-cz/tracker/+/469888>) and it seems it works, but I cannot see anything that should cause tests failing only from time to time. Can somebody help me with this? Thanks! Martin
