I have a log of what happens on when the commands:
sudo apt-get install mediawiki2latex
mediawiki2latex -u https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Ries -o AdamRies.pdf
are entered on the command line of ubuntu (13.10) Better than TV...
Happy to send it to anyone.

Sometimes while not logged in I try to access my Watchlist and then the
"Not logged in" page appears. It is quite useless since then you have to
click again to go to the "Log in" page. Wouldn't it be better to just
redirect to the "log in" page instead of showing that dumb "Not logged in"
page?
Or perhaps I am missing some hidden use or reasoning behind the existence
of that page...?
Cheers,
Micru
A few days ago, I got this warning message after pushing a commit to Gerrit
via git-review:
***********************************************************
A new version of git-review is available on PyPI. Please
update your copy with:
pip install -U git-review
to ensure proper behavior with gerrit. Thanks!
***********************************************************
I had version 1.23
$ git-review --version
git-review version 1.23
I have followed the instructions and got version 1.24. (I had to use sudo
on my Mac to get pip install to work.)
$ pip install -U git-review
But then, git-review broke completely:
$ git review
(...)
raise DistributionNotFound(req) # XXX put more info here
pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: git-review
Since I did not have the time to debug this, I have gone back to 1.23 and
everything works again. (Do not forget sudo.)
pip uninstall git-review
pip install git-review==1.23
The problem is already reported[1]. The workaround is to upgrade
setuptools. (Do not forget sudo.)
$ pip install --upgrade setuptools
(...)
$ pip install -U git-review
(...)
$ git review --version
git-review version 1.24

Matt Walker, praise be upon him, has just massively revised this RfC. See
the update for new details on URL unification, Varnish usage, and estimated
usage. It's now ready for another review pass, so have at it. :-)

This email is meant for people who will be attending the Hackathon in
London prior to Wikimania on August 6th and 7th. :)
---------------
Hi wikitech-l,
This year we are expecting a very large turnout at the London Hackathon.
Last I heard there were just under 400 people registered. While we will
have our usual crowd of long term developers, this will also be the first
hackathon for many of the attendees.
This means that the group is too large for our usual unconference approach,
and we will need a bit more structure and pre-planning.
If you have an idea for a meeting, sprint or workshop that you would like
to take the lead on, please add it to the "topics" section here:
https://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon
You can also browse topics that have already been added and express
interest in attending. This will help us match up meeting rooms to talks.
We are asking for volunteers to help work with newbies to the community. If
you have any ideas for intro/newbie sessions that you might be interested
and capable of leading, please add them to the "newbie" section under
topics. These can be anything from talks on the history of different
projects, helping people get set up and running with mediawiki software
(For example, BD808 will have some USBs with MediaWiki-Vagrant installer
files preloaded to get people started.), or organizing a sprint for your
own project that volunteers with a development background can help you with.
Finally, if you are willing to be available to be a mentor for a few hours
one of the days of the hackathon, (which means that you will be located at
a newbie table and/or somehow identifiable as someone that can be
approached with questions and available to answer questions and provide
direction), please add your user name to the participants section under the
volunteer heading like this "username (mentor)." here:
https://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon/Volunteers#Coordinators
I will be reaching out to the email list of everyone registered for the
hacakthon in a few days so that newer people can begin to sign up for
different topics.
Thanks! If you have any questions, or if anything is unclear please let me
know!
Looking forward to seeing everyone in London!

I have converted my email on using composer to manage a set of library
dependencies for MediaWiki-Core [0] into an RFC [1]. Work is
continuing on the implementation of this project, but there are still
debatable implementation details and the RFC process is meant to not
only validate ideas but leave behind a record of the design decisions
that have been made and trade offs that were considered in the
process.
In particular, the current draft RFC omits discussion of the concept
of library "ownership" for long term updates and security fixes and
could use more detail around the process of forking, patching and
subsequently maintaining a external library. I will attempt to fill in
some of these details as I see them over the next day or so, but now
would be a great time for people with strong ideas or opinions on
these aspects to comment on the talk page.
