Just got a report and screenshot that a new user got this string for their
captcha on en.wikipedia "nigerblew"
http://snag.gy/JpSUR.jpg
Though several people are pointing out that Niger is a country, I think
it's reasonable to try and avoid things close to the two-g version of that
word; nobody's denigrated by avoiding possibly offensive if misinterpreted
words. I recall there's a filter list?...

As usual, the full calendar is available at:
https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Deployments
== All week ==
* Sometime during the week there will be an upgrade to the test
infrastructure managed by Jenkins, specifically an upgrade of Zuul (to
the gearman based version). See:
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50664
The time this is done will be based on the developers availability and
impact on other developers' work, probably sometime in the morning UTC
(ie: when much of the US is still asleep).
This should have no user visible impact.
== Monday ==

Hi everyone,
Best wishes for 2014! I hope on your list of resolutions for the New Year
is to participate in the straw poll for the Architecture Summit --
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Architecture_Summit_2014/Straw_poll
Quick refresher: we have created clusters of related RFC's (
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Architecture_Summit_2014/RFC_clusters) for
the upcoming Architecture Summit. We are pretty happy with the clustering
and so now we want to hear from you what you think are the most important
clusters that should definitely be included in the program.
The poll will close Thursday, January 8th.
If you have any questions then please let me know!
Best,
Diederik
As the subject implies, there is a variable named $wgDBmysql5. I am
inclined to believe that the purpose of this variable is to use features
only available in MySQL 5.0 or later. The specific implementation affects
the encoding in the database.
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgDBmysql5
Right now MediaWiki installation requirements say you need MySQL 5.0.2 or
later. So my question is: is this configuration variable still necessary,
or should it be deprecated?

Heya,
I just posted an initial proposal to start running a biweekly showcase to
feature all the cool things that are happening on Labs. Please have a look
at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Showcase, express your interest and
chime in on the Talk page to help get this off the ground.
Best,
Diederik
