Hallo,
till now, if the user want to upload file or a picture during writing an article, he has to save the article and goto upload page, upload file and then go back to the article and add an image token. This waste just time, so i want to write an extension, with it users can upload file of picture during writing article. And I want to use standart uploading function of Mediawiki. I found include/UploadBase.php and include/UploadFormUpload.php in the svn of Mediawiki, but I can not find some document about how to using these classes. Through the svn log, I just found these file will be used for SpecialUpload.
Ok, here is actully my question:
1. Is there some code or document about how to use these classes?
2. whether the classes fully implemented the function of specialupload?
thanks

Pfff. Real men use Debian, the real thing, not the "debian based"
hype. :)

I use Debian GNU/Linux for my desktops and laptops (lenny/testing with
some sid/unstable plus custom things) and servers (etch/stable with some
volatile and custom things) and I am very happy, never had any problem,
always serving me with great stability and security.
At some point I had tried Ubuntu for desktops/laptops/servers and very
quickly I replaced it with Debian for all machines
(desktops/laptops/servers), never looking back.
May I ask whether you really tried Debian at all in the Wikimedia server
farm before choosing Ubuntu?

I learn that you recently moved to an all-Ubuntu platform.
May I ask whether you compared Ubuntu with Debian and whether you
considered Ubuntu better for your purposes than Debian? Exactly what
weaknesses Debian has compared to Ubuntu for your purposes?

Reading the wikipedia html output, I have found that EditPage.php
produce "+\" has the value for wpEditToken. This token seens
supposedly random, to stop spammers to fill the wikipedia with viagra
links. But It don't seems much random to me, on all computers I have
tested, it seems constant to "+\"
Is that a code bug, or maybe misconfiguration on the wikipedia guys?.
Un saludo.
Regarding
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki?view=rev&revision=41921
I congratulate the decision to make it off by default. However, I think
we could code a better alternative (perhaps in addition to the edit
counts, sine other mediawiki users may want them): instead of counting
edits, let's count how many characters each user added or changed in the
wikitext database.
Counting characters added or changed is much more indicative of the
contributions of users than mere edit counts, although not perfect. It
should be easy to code, considering that the software already counts it
in diffs/rc (albeit also taking deletions into account).

Hello!
You are receiving this email because your project has been selected to
take part in a new effort by the PHP QA Team to make sure that your
project still works with PHP versions to-be-released. With this we
hope to make sure that you are either aware of things that might
break, or to make sure we don't introduce any strange regressions.
With this effort we hope to build a better relationship between the
PHP Team and the major projects.
If you do not want to receive these heads-up emails, please reply to
me personally and I will remove you from the list; but, we hope that
you want to actively help us making PHP a better and more stable tool.
The first release candidate of PHP 5.2.7 was just released and can be
downloaded from http://downloads.php.net/ilia/. Please try this
release candidate against your code and let us know if any regressions
should you find any. The goal is to have 5.2.7 out within two to three
weeks time, so timely testing would be extremely helpful.
In case you think that other projects should also receive this kinds
of emails, please let me know privately, and I will add them to the
list of projects to contact.
Best Regards,
Ilia Alshanetsky
5.2 Release Master

Besides the advantages others have cited (improved security, usability, etc.) OpenID offers the best way to give liquidity to the credentials I have earned as a Wikipedia editor. It would be relatively easy for any website to confirm I am an expert in pre-vertebrate paleontology, for example, by cross-referencing my user id with my edit history. The only missing ingredient is being able to confirm that when I come to a site claiming to be User:XYZ I am in fact User:XYZ .
Hi,
I am trying to replicate Wikipedia locally with the history and the editing
tracking. The total DB might be extremely large. It is possible to do that
on a single server with 8 CPUs (Xeon) and 32 GB or RAM and Linux CentOS?
Thanks in advance for all your time and answers.

yeah I remember your fix as I reported that bug, thanks for fixing it so
quickly! I immediatelly grabbed your fix from svn for my wikis as I am
adventurous enough to run on HEAD :)
I also use Nostalgia on Wikipedia though, and I wonder when your fix
will make it there, as I see the Wikimedia wikis are still in 41337. I
can't properly print a Wikipedia page without switching skins as it is
now :(
> Nostalgia should be rewritten some day.
that was my idea also. someday it ought to be rewritten to become more
modernised from a coding perspective, and maybe also from a user
interface perspective while keeping the same general oldish look.

Nostalgic Wikipedians want a usable skin, too! :)
It is not necessary to replicate the old wiki look so much as to make
Nostalgia unusable or put its users at a disadvantage compared to the
other skins.
I think we can replicate the old look without sacrificing much
usability. I think it is important to provide the same functionality to
Nostalgia users that users of other skins enjoy, such as user pages
links (15868), a search box that can be used with Ajax easily (15902),
an upload link that can be middleclicked in a new tab (15903), perhaps
even a Discussion link at the top of the page as well (15905).
As I use Nostalgia I may end up improving it a bit, and I will share any
improvements as patches on bugzilla.

I was thinking about this while I was getting the patch ready, and
finally decided that the most important user-related pages that are
available as links in other skins should also be available as links in
Nostalgia as well. This helps users of Nostalgia enjoy the same user
experience as users of other skins; for example, I can middleclick and
open my watchlist in a new tab or new window with the other skins, but
with Nostalgia I wouldn't be able to do this through the dropdown menu.
In fact I now have the same problem with the upload link: in the other
skins I was used to middleclicking the upload link so that I could
upload using a new tab without replacing the page I was viewing. But
with Nostalgia I only get the upload function in the dropdown menu. I
will probably submit a small patch to add an upload link soon (15903).

I am thinking along the same lines, but I am considering whether it is
truly desirable to list all special pages in the drop down menu. Maybe
just including a menu item leading to the list of all special pages,
perhaps together with a small number of other frequently used special
pages, would be enough.
I would like to learn what other ideas or perceptions there are about
Nostalgia as well. I would also be very interested to collect
statistics regarding how many Wikipedia users use Nostalgia as their
skin of choice, so I will submit a query request to see generally how
much interest there would be for a better Nostalgia.
