Hi all,
Not trying to be a pain, but I recall reading that a solution to the
toolserver problem for EN being in the pipeline. Just wondering how
that's going...I seem to keep finding more and more tools that would
be great, if only they were up to date :)
Thanks,
Steve

Hello,
I am a little new to mediawiki, and I am trying to move content from an old
glossary database to my mediawiki installation.
The content of the current database simply consists of terms [>4,000] and
associated definitions - basically 2 fields.
What is the easiest way to import this into mediawiki?
Do I simply export my current db to the XML format at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Export#Export_format (leaving the
irrelvant fields blank) and then use the
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data_dumps#importDump.php script?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
Rajesh.
Hello
While signing a contribution in a discussion page makes it clear when
that contribution finishes it is *not* clear where it starts.
Usually it is recommended to use identation, however some users
sometimes use indentation in their editing in order to emphasise a
point. So could a here starts my contribution-tag be implemented?
One possibility could be
Re: User:Foo where User:Foo is the signature of user Foo.
I can do something like this with my editor, but it would be nice and
helpful to have it implemented.

Gentlefolk, don't forget that *you* can fix the entries. For several
years, I and most anybody I know locally here would just fix things
whenever we noticed a silly mistake, without logging on.
Last year, at the urging of some folks in various fields, I finally
added a user name. However, because of their arcane rules about not
writing articles that are/were based on original work, I cannot
actually help much in my areas of most significant expertise.
I urge you to add a user name, and "watch" some articles. The amount
of misinformation in some fields, including networking, is astounding.
Now, it's gotten rather large. When Wikipedia goes down, users call
support. They have a technical list, but it's hard to help much, as
the supporting documentation has not kept up with installation and
operations. A problem I'm sure we all recognize!
They are basically holding things together and bailing with both hands.

Hey all,
I would like to work on the external editor helper with a
cross-platform Qt/C++ interface.
I'm trying to make the ee.pl work but I get an error about my password
and url match.
This is what I put in my ini file:
[MediaWiki]
URL match=en.wikipedia.org
Username=patcito
Password=<mypassword>
isn't that correct?
thanx in advance
Pat
Hello!
Here is my idea for the SoC. I'd to have devlopper point of view before
applying.
Else I'll apply for the Javascript RC Stuff :)
I propose to add two main things:
* RSS feed for every category
* An article-included category limited listing/feed
The RSS feeds as article-inclusion could be sorted by their timestamp
(already in db), or another index like date.
Another functionality is an article-included line, description on the
article, that will be extrated in RSS feeds and could be used in articles.
Advantages:
* RSS feeds by category -> closer to RSS feeds we can get elsewhere on the
web
* Automatic last articles on portals
* Watch lists by categories (check new pages in categories)
* Get partly-automatic pages with different categories (like Wikinews, last
news are added together with the category inclusion)
Ideas:
* Sub-Categories (define how deep we must go - idea to study in terms of
database performance).
* Article description joined with sub-categories
* Add a second index to sort articles differently that alphabetic order
(example dates)
Inclusion example:

could give
star Google Summer of Code Google is again hosting a "Summer of
Code" program through which it will provide financial assistance to students
to work on open-source software projects during their summer break.
newline
star Google Summer of Code Google is again hosting a "Summer of
Code" program through which it will provide financial assistance to students
to work on open-source software projects during their summer break.
newline
with this line in the article Google Summer of Code :
[[Category:Google Summer of Code||05/01/2006|Google is again hosting a
"Summer of Code" program through which it will provide financial assistance
to students to work on open-source software projects during their summer
break.]]
Update to do on mediawiki:
* minor database changes (only to improve speed and server load)
* php RSS generation (use of existing class or redevelop since it is really
simple?)
* minor parser evolution for tags to allow second index and
description
* php feed generation for the new tag.
Thanks for every idea/suggestion!
