I've got a daft question:
If some subscriber were to send an email to the Featured Article by
email (daily-article-l) mailing list, would all list subscribers
receive that?
If yes, is there a way this can be prevented?

Hi!
I have some problems with installation WikiMedia on my site with
next software installed on system:
FreeBSD 4.1
Apache 2.0.51
mysql-max-4.1.5-gamma-unknown-freebsd4.7-i386
php-4.3.9
Problem discribed here
http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/2004-August/001021.html
( this is error in the beginning of installation )
Reason can be finded here:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Old_client.html
( MySQL 4.1 and up uses an authentication protocol based on a password
hashing algorithm that is incompatible with that used by older
clients. If you upgrade the server to 4.1 )
One of possible solutions:
Reset the password to pre-4.1 style for each user that needs to use a
pre-4.1 client program. This can be done using the SET PASSWORD
statement and the OLD_PASSWORD() function:
mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR
-> 'some_user'@'some_host' = OLD_PASSWORD('newpwd');
It's must make it twice:
1. For database user root ( I dont remember error message)
2. For database user wikiuser ( Error message "Sorry! The wiki is
experiencing some technical difficulties, and cannot contact the
database server")
PS Sorry for small english :\

Hi again
I develop a extremely simple extension (using the same technic as
graphviz extension and easytimeline extension)
with wich you can render SVG images online ...
The main utility for me (and the community) is to maintain a version
control over UML Diagrams and other
approachs . Instructions on how to use it and samples and downlads at my
wiki :
http://www.wickle.com/wikis/index.php/SVG_extension
I am still working on it, so all sugestions are welcome ...
best regards

I gather that all bugs from sourceforge have now been migrated to
MediaZilla. However, sourceforge stores feature requests in a seperate
"RFE" tracker, and these *haven't* been migrated.
I presume the reason for this is that there are many more
unnecessary/out-dated RFEs than there were unnecessary/out-dated bugs.
But since few people have the rights to do more than add a comment to
them on sourceforge, this will never change (they won't be closed);
and meanwhile, existing discussions are unavailable to be searched on
the new DB. Searching both, and then importing by hand to
cross-reference, is laborious to say the least.
I therefore suggest/request that whoever ran the bot to import the
bugs (Timwi, was it?) do so for the RFEs - perhaps labelling them with
a keyword such as "sf-import". Someone can then look through these
(yes, I'm volunteering) and make sure they are labelled appropriately,
close any that are out-dated or invalid anyway, etc.
(This message was occasioned by my desire to mark
http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378 as a duplicate of
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=594421&group_id=34…
- if you see what I mean)

The Wikimedia board would be willing to make a trial of the developer
payment option upon a task : membership.
We chose this task because it is not specifically a wikipedia (or other
projects) task, but one primarily interesting the foundation.
We also chose it because basically no previous work as been done by
anyone yet on it.
We finally chose this task, because we would like membership to be set
before 2005.
I thought of describing the task... and after reading Tim Starling mail
this morning, I decided not to go very far in details :-)
Roughly, the goal is
* to add to preferences a mention of default joining the foundation when
creating an account, and adding a link to an opt-out option
* set a form to join as a contributing member. The paiement itself
should be multilingual, include several different amounts, and allow the
person to enter a preference for use of part of the fee. Generate a tax
receipt for us contributors (desactivated for now).
* Find a solution to add as contributing members, editors who paid fees
in a local chapter.
* store all data about the member as "confidential" data (another db or
encryption). Make it available automatically for voting.
* Generate an access and interface of some sort, so that someone can
consult/manage the list of members.
I may forget points of course. Comments welcome :-)
Since we have little idea of how long this would take, I think it is
best that those interested just join the discussion, and after
clarification of the task, declare interest for a certain amount (or for
nothing). Developer committee is welcome to participate and comment as well.
Cheers
Hoi,
Is it possible to refresh the content of a category ? I have added loads
of categories to templates. When all the categories are refreshed, more
than 4000 articles will be seen as being part of a category?
If it is possible, could someone do this for the nl:wiktionary ??
Background, I have added these categories on the request of an
en:wiktionary user who maintains that categories are likely to show more
than 500 entries in contrast to the references of an article or
template. It would be nice to have the links to the categories refreshed
so that we will know how well categories will do.
On the subject of categories, the Persian words read from left to right,
the category for Persion words reads them the wrong way round. I think
that there is already a bug in bugzilla but, it is different with the
Arabian words so I am not sure.
Thanks,
GerardM
Hello,
I wonder if you are aware that your web servers are incorrectly
configured at present..? (I could be wrong..)
Below is a log from teh W3C link check validation util:
http://validator.w3.org/checklink
It looks like a config issue to me. You can reproduce the problems by
entering my home page: http://jguk.org/ into the link checker.
Kind regards

It included <!-- commented out --> German text (for translation) which
has subsequently been found to be an apparent violation of 3rd party

The current version is a simple stub which no longer includes the

Hello,
I am willing to know if we are willing to use a blog software to
communicate with wikipedians and mediawiki users.
Developpers and wikifarm administrators will be able to post lengthy
articles about the various things happening. Be it new servers added to
the farm, new features being developped or polling the user base to help
us make choices.
We already have this mailing list, irc to discuss issues but important
announcments are flooded with questions and generals ideas. We also have
the server admin log wich is great for the hour per hour action
logging as well as for internal documentation. But I think a blog will
attract more people and will easily provide rss feed + comments :o)
This afternoon I ported monobook to the serendipity blog software. You
can have a quick look at it on http://www.twenkill.net/serendipity/ .
cheers,

Salvete,
Does anyone have any objections to roadmapping WikiTeX
for the upcoming 1.4; and how could we accomplish getting
WikiTeX on the test server?
