I've got a daft question: If some subscriber were to send an email to the Featured Article by email (daily-article-l) mailing list, would all list subscribers receive that?
If yes, is there a way this can be prevented?

No, they wouldn't. All posts need to be approved by the list owners (Kate and Raul654) before they get sent out.
