Hello everyone,
We hope you are all healthy and safe in these difficult times.
The Community Tech team https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Tech has just launched a new initiative to improve Wikisource. We will be addressing five separate wishes, which came out of the 2020 Community Wishlist Survey https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2020/Results, and we want you to be a part of the process! The projects include the following:
-
Improve ebook export https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2020/Wikisource/Improve_export_of_electronic_books -
Improve OCR tools https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2020/Wikisource/New_OCR_tool -
Migrate Wikisource specific edit tools from gadgets to Wikisource extension https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2020/Wikisource/Migrate_Wikisource_specific_edit_tools_from_gadgets_to_Wikisource_extension -
Inter-language link support via Wikidata https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2020/Wikisource/Inter-language_link_support_via_Wikidata -
Insert attestation on Wiktionary using Wikisource as a corpus https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2020/Wiktionary/Insert_attestation_using_Wikisource_as_a_corpus
For the first project, the team will focus on the #1 wish: improve ebook exports. We have created a project page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Tech/Ebook_Export_Improvement, which includes an analysis of the ebook export process. We now invite everyone to visit the page and share their feedback on the talk page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Community_Tech/Ebook_Export_Improvement#Project_Overview:_Request_for_Feedback_(May_2020) . Please let us know what you think of our analysis; we want to hear from all of you! Furthermore, we hope that you will participate in the other Wikisource improvement projects, which we’ll address in the future. Thank you in advance and we look forward to reading your feedback on the ebook export improvement talk page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Community_Tech/Ebook_Export_Improvement#Project_Overview:_Request_for_Feedback_(May_2020) !

Thanks!
Are you able to share something about the timeline for beginning work on the other four?
Cheers,
A.

Thanks for the question!
We're still working out the timeline for the other projects, but we'll update this email list when we have more information.
