Someone should try this new model from Fujitsu,

At US$ 623, it sounds like a bargain. That's the price I currently see at Amazon. But even if it were $ 800 or 1200, it would still make sense.
What scanning resolution (dots per inch or megapixels) does it produce?
Don't let the name fool you. Previous "ScanSnap" products are sheet-fed scanners that require the book to have the spine cut off. This is an over-head scanner looking down at the open, unhurt book. You should even be able to bring this scanner to the library reading room to capture rare books that they don't allow you to bring home. It's not a digital camera array, though, but a linear scanner that sweeps across the page, as the videos show.
