Just a question: have you ever discussed (and where) the possibility to add Page: (and maybe Index: and Author:) to the defined ContentNamespaces (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgContentNamespaces , $wgContentNamespaces = array (0, 102, 108, 110)) to get those pages considered by [[Special:Statistics]], {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} and [[Special:Random]] (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Using_custom_namespaces#Content_namespa... )?

This has not been discussed afaik.
However {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} is a very bad indicator for Wikisource, because some wikisources have a high proportion of pages that have no links, except inside templates. (for example zh, ru, de)

About this problem, en.wikt adds "fake" wikilinks to avoid it: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Page_count
