Hi Tpt! I'm so glad you can participate, I'm really really happy.
Regarding the hackathon in the pre-conference, I'm not sure: we are expecting roughly 50 participants in the conference, and I hope them to be more, but we have to keep our expectations low. There aren't many wikisourcians in Wien, so probably most of the attendees would need some sort of scholarships, and find the funding for 50 scholarships is not an easy goal. We will need a lot of chapters to cooperate, and for that, we need all the help we can find. So, you all, please talk with your chapter, if you have one: it would be very important if every chapter can provide few scholarships.
For the hackathon, what do you think about a whole day during the conference? Or even a room that is dedicated to that during all the 3 days? Or do you prefer a 2-3 hour event but for all participants?
We are able to decide.

Thank you so much for organising this event!
I am able to attend (yeah!) and ready to act as the fallback guy if there is no other volunteer to do technical talks.
Are some people interested to organise a small Wikisource hackathon before the conference (I'll be on holidays the week before the conference)?
Cheers,
Thomas

I think this is a good initiative and it will offer GLAM enthusiasts like me the chance to learn more about WS so I can start editing WS and also incorporate that into our GLAM project with the Libraries.

Just a fuzzy idea: it would be great IMHO that Distributed Proofreaders editing interface would be briefly shown and discussed. There's much to learn from it; at least, I personally learned much from it. If there's
any
Distributed Proofreaders expert in Wien, it would be great to invite
him.

Thank you Felix, it's a great suggestion.
The programme for the event is not done yet so it's important to get
all
the feedbacks now; I agree with you that a beginner walkthrough would be important, especially for GLAM partners (that could be thus interested in participating).

I remember making this suggestion at the WMCON 15 and am glad to
finally
see it coming to life. I however wish to say that upon reading the conference page on Meta, I added a new line to the curriculum for the beginners section for the program.
I added Beginners Walkthrough. This is particularly important to me
and
i believe that was the main reason behind my suggestion or perhaps part
of
the reason for this conference. I thought it will be a perfect opportunity to train interested individuals who have no or little help finding
their
way around Wikisource.
I have tried several times to contribute to Wikisource but have no
idea
where to start from. So i have resorted to proofreading texts. I think often than not this is the situation people face, and will appreciate
a
beginners walkthrough at its very basic level.

Dear all, thanks to Wikimedia Österreich we are organizing the first international Wikisource Conference, which will be held in Wien, Austria, from November 20 till 22, this year.
We are finalizing the application for a WMF grant, and would like to receive some feedbacks:

Hopefully, everything will go for the better and we will receive the money. From there, a lot of work have to be done!
Here there is the page for the conference on Meta:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikisource_Community_User_Group/Wikisource_C...
It's up to *you* to come up with a program for the conference :-) Seriously: it's important that this will be a community event, and community curated too. We will have many things to discuss, and we hope it will be great event. And yes: if everything goes as expected, there will be scholarships, but it's crucial that we involve our Chapters. More on this soon.
Spend some time in the weekend to give us some honest feedback! I hope you are excited about this as we are.
Thanks
